Hey I got 91.5/100 in the CSSA chemistry trials... in the actual HSC exam, what raw mark /100 will get me a state rank?
Also, in chem does first in the state usually get 100%?

Cheers

Raw mark for state rank would probs be around 95 I'm guessing. And no, nobody gets 100% typically.

Congrats though on your mark- that's incredible. Do you know that your school marks to HSC standards?

apparently according to s0mething and other sources, state rank in chem is 90+. in a way I can see where he is coming from. But to be safe I would say 93+

http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=275387 this kinda shows something similar

Yes, state rank tends to be around ~88 raw mark but I'd say 90 is enough to be quite sure of a state rank. Most schools say they mark hard but in the actual HSC, it is incredibly hard - I doubt any school marks harder than HSC.

I heard state ranks tend to start at mid to high 80s cause its the paper is harshly marked or something. Can anyone confirm this?

How did you score half a mark? Pretty sure there are no half marks awarded, besides if it was double marked.

Hey Peter, yeah - mid to high 80s, you just need 3 more marks for a state rank ;)

wouldn't you be top 5 now though? and yeah, I just gotta stop only getting 1 mark in 2 and 3 markers, lost like 15 marks from that :S

1. CSSA paper
2. It's likely that your teacher marks a LOT easier than HSC markers.

As a matter of fact. My teacher is a HSC marker.

He went to the pilot marking session with the other teachers and trust me he marks very fair. No one had any disputes what so ever according to the way he marked.

Ah, fair enough. Still though, IMO CSSA is still quite easy compared to the HSC itself. That being said, >90 in CSSA is still quite an achievement.
