Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

when I'm studying logic based subjects (math, chem, phys) I do listen to music, mostly jazz. But when im doing an essay or something i need coplete silence and no distractions whatsoever. I cant even be in my own house for english study, the guitar in the corner and the PC and the books im reading, even my other homework distracts me from essay writing... thank the lord for gordon library

anyways Jazz or nothing, i cant concentrate with metal or rock:headbang:.

i listen to whatever ive got on my MP3/computer at the time, but if im feeling hyper i try to listen to "calming music" (Il Divo works well), also if i'm really trying to concentrate (eg 4 unit maths), or doing practise tests etc. i turn it off

I can't concentrate on studying when I've got music on. I've got this need to either sing the words while reading through text or hum the tune- I can't do it.

I watch T.V while doing maths, I found that the speed at which I do the maths stays the same so I might as well do it.

At the moment, I'm just listening to this genre called 'psychedelic ambiance' which I think provides the most comfortable atmosphere for studying. It doesn't have lyrics or hooks, so it's great for background sound so that I don't get bored or restless from the silence.

Btw, silence is a sound.

Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

Technically you should not be listening to music while studying or doing homework. Sometimes you start actually listening to the music and get so caught up that you do not notice what you write down on your page.
If you are still going to listen to music, then might I suggest, no mp3's. You sholud listen to radio or music on your computer/cd player/etc...
It is also acceptable to listen to classical music, as it has no fast-paced beats, like we have today.

i cant even study when my doors closed and i can hear feint whispers of my mum talking to my sister.

It irritates me so much... i just cant concentrate. I need absolute silence.

So i work late at night or early morning.:burn:

Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

I generally don't listen to music whilst seriously studying and working on assignments.
Though I do listen to SOFT music while I'm doing homework and stuff.

Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

Most of the time I study listening, unless I can't concentrate. While it helps me concentrate I do find myself getting distracted and singing the lyrics occasionally.

Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

light music can do no harm.
infact, when you are struggling to remember material, humming back music you were listening to while studying can help trigger such info.
at least that's what a study coach told me.

Perhaps listening to "NO YOU GIRLS" is a bad item.
I listen to music, only because my cousin sleeps on the sofa in my study room... he snores and grinds his teeth even though he's only 10.

I am worried.

Re: Do you listen to music when you study?

I generally always listen to music while i study.

I do so to either block out annoying background noise (people talking etc etc) or to make noise (don't like studying while its quite because i get bored...).

Any music that i like i'd listen to while studying ^^
OMG. same. with the whole blocking out noise/making noise thing.

Sometimes I leave a song on repeat, because then I've heard it to many times I don't pay attention to it and concentrate on my work and it's not quiet. =)
