I have a study period on my timetable and my friend has their subjects removed and I don't even know what "study period" means

A study period is as the name suggests. If you have a study period, congratulations! Less time spent in class!

You just use these periods to study or work on assessments or whatever it is that you want to do

Subjects would be removed if you dropped or accelerated them.

Study periods are a godsend. Use them to your advantage because you don't get an awful lot of free time in year 12.
