So I am enrolling in courses for Mech. Engineering at UNSW and am wondering a few things.

I got a combined mark of 184 in Maths Ext1 and Ext2 for the HSC, so am recommended by UNSW to do MATH1141 Higher Mathematics, but am unsure of the advantages of doing this over MATH1131? Like, is there any point in making my workload harder by doing a harder subject or should I just stick to MATH1131 and do better in that, with perhaps less of a challenge but more time to focus on other subs?

Same question with Physics, is there any point in doing the higher. I get my degree either way :p

Thanks!

Generally, they give out more HD's and D's in the higher subjects due to difficulty + it would probably help you in the future as 1141 covers some extra material which is not included in 1131. Not sure if Physics is the same but I'm assuming it is.

Take Higher. Scaling compensates you, and arguably assists you.

Ok I will take the higher ones, I guess I can always try to transfer to the lower if I am struggling.

Cheers

do management courses like mgmt1001 and mgmt1002 have good scaling. And does that mean in easier subjects it will nearly impossible to get D or HD.

Those don't have Higher or Lower options so there is no 'scaling'. Just "aligning" of marks as you would've seen in the HSC.
