mm, have to agree there. what's with this clearways idea? i don't see how you can service the entire city with only five lines, as is my understanding of what they want to do (reduce 14 lines to 5)...you'd need at least 8 (north, south, east, west, NW, SW, SE, NE) to cover the metropolitan area properly.

Won't really help me much. Usyd is already easy enough to get to, and it doesn't stop anywhere near my house as per usual so don't really care

It's GOTTA happen sometime in the next 15 years.

Sydney will just reach a point of meltdown every morning without a metro on Victoria Road.

No, just that part of Sydney. Those of us who live the the sexy safe seats of South-West Sydney enjoy either the cheap M5, or an express train from Campbelltown through Glenfield and then right on to the city.

Wooooo let's build a metro to places which already have trains!

Sincerely,
Resident of places that don't.

Extract from a paper by Bradfield

The time of journey from Central station around the loop and back to Central station, with a 30-second station stop at Wynyard Square and a 20-second stop at all other stations will be 11 minutes, 38 seconds, the distance being 3 miles 36 chains.

Page 303 in 1987 "Electrification of Sydney and Suburban Railways" reprint of 1926 papers presented to Institution of Engineers.

In 2006, trains are timetabled to do the same trip in 17 minutes.

EDIT: Prolly partly because of that silly ol Goulburn St carpark. Was Circular Quay not written into that paper thing either? THE QUESTIONS ARE BAMBOOZLING!

Run times in Tokyo and most other railway networks have fallen and levels of safety have risen.

Can't blame that.

Gotta love Tokyo's subway system. They have around 4 million people pass through Shibuya station every day. Trains never run late. Ever.

Sorry, did I emphasise every day, and never late.

:( I want so much to experience that again.
