I wouldn't say overpopulated. It is a tad big though due to the nature of Australians wanting their own backyards etc.

I do like the idea of shops within walking distance though, with the price of petrol continually rising it might get more people walking which is always good.

I also like the idea. Walking distance to shops is good. More exercise and all. It'll be good for Australian health.

Yes, there should be incentives for more efficient cars. However, if you combine the two it would be very good, if you can get people walking to their shops.

sydney will continue to sprawl and the metropolitan region may come close to both newcastle and wollongong. apparently sydney takes up more space than london which has a much larger population.sydney isnt overpopulated it is simply over sprawled
this is why there is more high rise and high density development nowadays.

if sydney hadnt grown so fast, the transport system (roads mostly) wouldnt have been so uncoordinated. they are too radially based and inefficient. same with the rail network. there are somany areas without rail it puts a huge strain on our roads and pollution gets bad too.

i love sydney anyways. better than most cities in the world apparently (ive not been around to many os cities)

im more referring more to the hills district. theres virtually no rail. buses are dodgy. they almost got a rail station in castle hill but that was declined. but yeah i doubt the areas you mention would want rail

4 million+ people covering such an area proves how uncrowded sydney is

Yes the sprawling this is a problem.

And the rail network is currently unefficient (from what I've heard) so needing to add more public transport to these new suburbs will bring more chaos in.

I would prefer to see them build somewhere else up preferably not a satellite town that will just be swallowed up later (which is even worse for public transport). But alas no one would move there unless you get beach frontage and charge $4 million for the land.

The Hills district is interesting...

Massive houses...conservative and christian...a long way from everything...

Rail...maybe...its a long way out...

interesting you say that about the hill district. it does have massive houses in some areas but they arent anyore conservative or christian than people i know on the north shore, out west around richmond or in the northern suburbs around epping or eastwood.

it is a long way from a fair bit. its about 40mins from CBD from dural, crappy access to buses compared to other areas. they were gonig to do the whole rail thing next to castle towers but i forget why they didnt do it. they were going to have it link with carlingford and epping i think.

we have everything we need here though. we just dont go to the city all that often

Its a conservative christian area. ie Bible belt of Sydney...ie you will get more conservative christians at Castle Hill than in the electorate of Sydney

fair enough. they do have some pretty big churches there. dural is a bit different though. completely different people. almost liek a country version of the north shore

still very conservative. Not a place I'd like to live. Not only for those reasons. But also for the fact that its just so damn far from everthing.

you dont live in dural so you wouldnt really no what it is like. we know virtually no christian people in dural.

we like dural cause its quite and not busy and its less than 10 mins from castle towers and like 2mins from our local shopping centre. we have what we need there. we love the space basically. has a nice atmosphere. lots of wildlife. for some people (like us) it is still close enough to everything since we get a nice large block of land

if i had a choice where id lived it would either be right out of the way of things but still with access to the suburban advantages (dural) or in the inner city in an apartment. not too fussed on the whole suburban lifestyle really.

well i was suprised..because when i moved from wherever to baulkham hills and started going to castle hill(shops etc)
i had it in my head that they were rich and upper class...etc etc
they werent really..
and when i meet people i tell them i am from baulkham hills
they are like oh wow..
im like its not that big a deal..but yeah

at my school people from our area are called westies. they certainly dont see the area as upper class (just some people from school, plenty from our area go to my school anyways)

Actually, Casltle Hill had a rail line, it was an extension of the line at Parra, unfortunately it was closed down in the late 50's.

And I was about to lecture you asqy about what's good about the Hills, but since you apparently live out here...

To be honest the city buses are O.K despite not showing up sometimes and it only takes a little over half an hour to get into the city, and there's a direct bus to Maq. center as well. However, it's absolutely fucking horrible to get anywhere that isn't in the West or smack bang in the middle of the city (I had to forgoe going to a party at Balmoral beach tomorrow because its just so damn hard to get there.)

On the plus side, If I ever feel like skirmish....and Castle Towers is really quite good, when I needed a pair of new boots Towers actually payed off for me more than the city, which is really saying something :-/.
