Hiya. Im currently in year 12, and ive put my preferences in. my top one is to sutdy teaching at ourimah campus majoring in secondary school visual arts.

I just need some info on the course and stuff.. what does it involved? what i mean is, what are the topics? I cant seem to find them. obviously i know what the course is about and stuff or else i wouldnt have put it as my first preference.

Does anyone here do the course? or the teaching course majoring in another subject? if so, can you give me an overview of the course and if you think it is any good. When you major in a certain subject, does that mean the whole course is about that subject, or do you study general teaching stuff too?

Thanks for any replies ^^

OMG I LOVE YOU! That said, I'm so happy you're choosing teaching, teaching is wonderful, teaching is good, teaching rox your cotton sox.

I'm doing Primary teaching at Callaghan, but the first year EDUC courses are the same..
You'll do EDUCs 1003 (education psyc), 1004 (education socio), 1005 (professional prep. - the dont shag your students course) and 1006 (the quality teaching model).. most boring upon boring crap ever, you'll sit in the classes thinking "fuck, this is just common sense!" once you get over that, the rest of your degree will be absolutely awesome!

(not sure about vis. arts electives, but i'm sure they're awesome - *'m majoring in creative arts in the primary curriculum)

goodluck and enjoy,
oh and did I mention that I LOVE YOU???

Hi, good luck with getting in.

PrincessSJ summed things up nicely. Not sure how things differ, if at all, at the Ourimbah campus, but for the secondary B.Teach/content area, you'll do two components, which makes sense, it being a double degree and all. The first half is EDUC codes, or equivalent, which will cover education theory etc, in later years you will be split into content areas so you can meet the other people doing vis arts and study teaching specific to vis art, but there will still probably be mass lectures, and depending on which subject you're doing, mixed tutorials, so you will still be with plenty of other people. The other half involves the content studies, so you'll be mixed in with other students from different degrees, for example I get mixed in with journos, social workers, law students, english majors etc.

(btw, Love the "don't shag the students" description for 1005, oh the stories one hears from days gone by)
