tupac was a much more versatile rapper than biggie. you dont have to have all these wild similes, metaphors etc to be such a sick mc - dont confine the characteristics of a great rapper to lyricism
Agreed!

What do you exactly mean by the term, "versatile"?

What else do you need to be a sick MC?

In my opinion, while I think what tupac wrote may have been more meaningful (in terms of social commentary, not necessarily more important) than biggie (and this fact probably makes him more popular, like hiphop said it appeals to many peoples emotions), that doesnt make him a better rapper. In terms of rapping style biggie was a lot better, and I personally like his lyrics a lot more than pac. I've got all their albums on this computer and I find tupac's style and what he raps slightly repetitive. If i were to pick all the songs of the two that I actually liked, despite the fact tupac made a hell of a lot more, i'd probably have more biggie than tupac songs in my list.

I'd be interested to know which song you guys think are each of their best?

Edit: and i think its bs saying tupac wasnt commercialised

i prefer biggie, but faaark nobody can deny that they have been two of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. just because i prefer biggie means no disrespect to tupac. both legends in my books, R.I.P the both of you

I prefer 2Pac personally, I don't know why people hate his flow, nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Biggie has a lot of good songs too, I listen to a fair bit of both.

I got problems? Your the one with problems to think that 2pac is better than Biggie, let alone Jay-Z. All Tupac songs are good? Ive got all his albums bought with my hard earned cash, and to be honest, there is a maximum of only two to three good songs on each album. And let me note the obvious - his Greatest Hits Album was only good because they collected songs from the so many bad albums he made prior to his death. Let me also add that Notorious B.I.G sold more albums in his life than Tupac did in his life with a hell more number of albums - obviously showing what the United States of America thinks of this issue.

whats the bet that wallid is lebanese or at least middle-eastern (and that illmatic will come in this thread attacking me for that comment)

im putting down 50 bucks, redrum wat do you bet?

i know for a fact that jay-z is praised as the greatest rap artist ever by many, many MANY. People who actually know about HIP HOP (ie, not game, 2pac, 50 cent etc) know that jay-z is overall better than 2pac.

go learn some more about the genre mate. Or stay ignorant, either way is fine by me.

im guessing jay-z's mainstream songs are the only ones you have heard, and you probably think 'h to the izzo' is his debut song?? lol go listen to reasonable doubt.

and if you think 'whats ya phone number' is a good song then ur really the lost fuck.

don't come here and call me a 'lost fuck' if you have no fucking idea what you are talking about yourself.

heres some more fuel to the fire:

redman > 2pac
nas > 2pac
jay-z > 2pac
biggie > 2pac
black thought > 2pac
raekwon > 2pac
LL Cool J > 2pac
big L > 2pac
KRS-One > 2Pac
ghostface > 2pac
scarface > 2Pac
OutKast > 2Pac
Big Daddy Kane > 2Pac
Murda Mase (back in the C.O.C days) > 2Pac
Q-Tip (in his prime) > 2Pac
ice cube > 2Pac

Tupac Still The Hottest Hip Hop Act

by Paul Cashmere

July 6 2006

It may be 10 years since the death of Tupac but the rapper is still the hottest name in Hip-Hop.

According to a poll of 10,000 music fans at 1738.com for Black Music Month, Tupac topped the poll of favorite artists.

His song ‘Hail Mary’ was also voted as favorite song.

Runners up in the poll were Jay-Z at No. 2, Notorious B.I.G. at 3, NAS at 4 and Eminem at 5.

Mary J. Blige remains the Queen of Hip-Hop. She was the most popular female performer and came in 6th overall.

The only other female to make the chart was Mariah Carey, who came in at 17th place

for me, enough said.

you want more separate polls that show 2pac is better with a high number of voters, ill link you them.

fuckers

i agree with hiphophooray123..... with todays style of hip hop 2pac would be changing his style of music... sure it was in back about 10 years ago but times have changed and people have changed theyre style of music.... and yes biggie spits the rhymes way better than pac... im not tryin to be rascist with this comment but lebos worship him because he was muslim, see if biggie was muslim who would they follow??? thats just my opinion it may not be politically correct but its what i have to say... but my final opinion is biggie > pac..... those who understand hip hop to a certain degree would back me up on this...
