yeah, all depends how much money is in ur social club for how good the Xmas part is.

also, u dont need to fundraise necescarily, companies always run sales competitions with prize money going into the social club, thats where all our money comes from

Which store you at Peterperthh??

Haha woolworths xmas partys are usually stingy and all the staff have to pay though we did have some good themed ones. Prefer working for a company that has an open bar tab though :)

Lordtopcat,

In most "large stores" depends on sales really but if it's a million plus store which it would sound like if you have 16 pallets of F+V coming in 3-4 times a week.

You should have a storeman or back dock manager which will do all the paperwork etc if not duty managers usually do it. FF STM will liase with Produce manager and 2IC for ordering etc and sales plans which the managers don't have much say in all the specialists are pretty antsy when it comes to high profit stores for some reason they like certain things in certain places where as smaller stores seem to choose their own layouts etc.

At my store it was the responsibility of the 2IC to ensure the POS/S/serve had the correct products on the screens each morning, went from a couple times a week to twice a day in the end due to the change of produts etc etc.

Also whoever was saying about the poster about the store loosing money, can't see the manager putting up signs in the staff room saying they are loosing money, for starters woolies seems to not like giving out their sales figures unless your a department manager etc and certainly not displaying them for all to see! Orginally in WOW POS when it came out in 05/06 they didn't want to be able to print sales reports etc due to the sensitivity but they may have relaxed?

Also see the new logo sloooooowly being introduced into the stores and also Woolies in NZ has the same WOW POS as Australia.........bout time progressive got them, also been into one Countdown store which had them. Their competitors have s/serve so i'd say self serve may be introduced pretty quickly in NZ.

@Pilotman - I'm certain that they release the figures of total cash lost due to dumps, out of date products, damaged products, stolen goods, etc. There's a chart like that in my lunch room. Quite interesting really.

We're getting the new nametag with the new symbol this week. I should be getting mine on wednesday which is good because mine is broken. hahah.

our Christmas outing was at our local lonestar ... had to pay $15 fori t as well, so a lot of people didn't go (including me). Not gonna pay $15 to go to lonestar =/

1 @ 10pm and 1 @ midnight at my store...
Same at ours, when there's two bakers.
When there's only one on, it's a midnight start, with the pastry chef coming in at 3 to assist.

Our christmas party was at a theme park, with half price tickets. I didnt go though, because it was the day before one of my exams.
We had a roasted lunch thingy in the staff room the Friday prior to Christmas, that's about it.

Coming in randomly mid conversation here :)
I am a Serviced Deli/Seafood assistant! Hurrah!
Ive been working at woolies for a whole of 4 weeks, but i really enjoy it so far.
Tho i feel bad-ish because ill have to ask for a week off basicaly around mid january and i cant get a hold of my manager to tell them dammit, very frustrating, and i also still dont have a scanner number and have had none of my training stuff marked off, lol, no one seems to really care though :)

anyhoo, for xmas at my woolies, they just had a big sort of buffet table set up in the staffroom that the different departments restocked throughout the day- i dont think it cost anyone anything....

Hahahaha thats funny that they got everything from another store.

Yeah but our social club does HEAPS during the year and raises a fair bit... I don't know.

We also had an in store lunch which was awesome coz I was on that night and me and all the nightfillers were just going crazy over the awesome food. Didn't have any prawns or chicken though...they'd been sitting out for about 6 hours.

Kasakiki thats weird that you don't have a scanner number yet after being there for 4 weeks, whenever staff start at our store its one of the first things they do.

Our Xmas party was at the local sports club on a Saturday night.
Apparently it was good fun, and cost very little (I didn't go, I was overseas) and then they all hit some club in the city afterwards.
Managers were wasted, embarrassing photos were bluetoothed between various staff at work, all very funny.

Christmas luncheon was mega win.
Prawns, chickens, 4 tables covered with other random food. I worked 12 - 9, and came at 11 when it started, so I hung out in the lunch room for an hour. On my hour lunch break, I went back and there was still a fair bit of food, and coz our social club is considerate and all that, they got new prawns and chicken for the night staff (aww, how nice :p) so I ate some chicken for dinner.
'Twas very good.

Christmas eve at my store was FUCKED!!

If you where on smoke shop (which I was) they pulled out those blue vests that they used to wear who ever was a smoke shop operator! that was pretty lol though. So I had to wear one, not sure why, the manager was like, 'HARRY, blue smoke shop vest, put it on' AND THANK GOD they put two people on.

It would have been so bad if there wasnt. Lucky we have two registers at the front.

Anyway, I was walking upstairs and this guy comes up to me and goes, you need to get more checkouts open. (Every single one was open since 7.30 rite through to close (10pm) I turned around sed 'Every register we have IS OPEN there isent much more I can do, unless you would like me to magically expand the store and more registers for you?!' What a dick head. Could he not see that every one was open. We where so fucking busy ALL DAY.

This lady knocked on the roller door at 6AM, as soon as I got there and goes, 'when are you opening, i've been here since 5.30!!' a long with about 20 other people. lol, I sed 7AM!!!! SO ANNOYING PEOPLE!!

Sorry, and thanks for listening!

^ Christmas Eve was annoying at our store also.

I worked 11 am - 10 pm. Since when do they need someone on close in bakery (?!?!?!?!?!?!) but anyway.
All day 20 registers were open, with the other 2 open on and off. I kept being called to deli & chekouts when it got overly busy, so I was annoyed and my manager was shitty.
Duty manager refused to do bread markdowns so i got lumped with that.
Ran So many trolleys of freezer stock so that it would be full for Boxing Day morning.
After 7, it slowed down a bit... until BIG W closed, and a swarm of shoppers raped bakery, taking all the bread (literally, there wasn't a loaf or pack of rolls left).
At 9 PM it was packed at front end. When I left at 10 there was at least 100 customers in store, ignoring the PA calls for them to leave. *sigh*

Boxing Day was more shit.

haha why wear the EZYBANKING vests?? strange!

God i remember being trained up as an EZYbanking person, i hated it! wearing the stupid blue vests and dealing with stupid stupid people.

Wonder how the company is going with getting every store the 2010 layout?

Their plan at the AGM in 07 was to have every single store fitted by mid 2010 regardless of how old the store was or when it was last refurbed. They were pushing them out pretty quick...anyone know how they are going?

And what kind of name badges? like BIG W style? or same old cheap plastic shit with the insert?

I was at my local Woolworths last week, and only the managers had the new look one. I didn't see them too well, but they look more Big W style now. Which is good.
I still like my plain Target one :D

I don't know what to write in my letter of resignation.. And who do I give it to? Service desk or to the manager himself?
when i wrote mine i just said why i was leaving, that it had been good experience working at woolies etc etc etc (if you want a refrence be nice)

I had a chat with my boss and he told me to bring in a letter so the next day i took him the letter but he wasnt there so I handed it in at the cash office.

We've been getting our new badges the last couple of weeks. They look better, more modern. I know its a badge though so how can it look modern.

We're getting a new uniform in July I do believe, how annoying. Our store already has new trolleys with the apple. Was stupid coz we'd gotten all new trolleys less than 2 months beforehand then paid $500 each for a shitload more and got rid of the others. Well gave them to other stores...
