How about:
In theory it doesn't matter, because whatever uni you go to, you leave with virtually the exact same skills as you would if you'd done the same degree somewhere else.
However, in terms of employment potential, it's all about prestige whether it's fair or you like it.
Besides which, in Australia, the greater the prestige of the uni/degree, the greater the UAI requirement, and the UAI is one of the few ways we have of measuring a person's relative intelligence.
So you hire someone with a degree from a good uni, it automatically means they had a good UAI to get in there.

Because it's all crap. Not only is the language generally crap and over-studied, but you've also screwed up the quotation.

I'm not sure you understand how the UAI system works. What you've said is a common mistake among school and uni students, and indeed employers.

Typical someone going to a shit uni themselves.

If it doesnt make a diff, why the effort around the world for people to get into better unis and all the rankings and judging happenin?
Sorry, you must go to one of those universities which are INTERNATIONALLY PRESTIGIOUS no? Otherwise, prestige is about as useful as grades, connections and a slew of other things. Going to X uni in Australia, generally, really doesn't matter too much.

But say if you are a Harvard graduate at IT, chances are, you'll land in a better job first time round with greater ease and greater pay. Same for accounting. This is all referring to first job.
If you were a Harvard graduate in IT I wouldn't hire you, I'd hire the person who went to MIT instead, because they have a better focus on technological concepts. What most people here are forgetting is that the university systems overseas are a worth a lot more because not everyone and their dog can get to uni. They are forced to specialise in a certain area, and therefore market themselves in such a way.

Going to Harvard often means that you a) have a fuckload of money or b) are extremely smart because you got a scholarship.

Wow, just wow.

Catch up with the rest of society my dear, the UAI is about as contentious a measure of intelligence, relative or not, as the IQ test is.

The UAI requirements are based on supply and demand, not on some abstract notion of difficulty. Let's make it very clear, you graduate with a shit or mediocre GPA/WAM, you graduate with the bare essentials while someone else has a long list of extra curricular activities, you graduate with the inability to interview well, and in any of these cases it won't matter which uni went to, because someone else will most likely get the job.

As for the general crying in this thread:

Accreditations a course has > Uni 'prestiginess' ?

Yes? / No?

Eg.
UWS' B. Communication is accredited by the IAA, and the Public Relations Institute of Australia, whilst the similar prestigiousier UNSW course has no accreditations.
