Trapezoidal rule (1 Viewer)

with our 3U class we got taught a different trapezoidal rule to the 2U classes and our rule doesn't seem to work. i dervived the 2U one but forgot to write it down and it was ages ago.... can someone please tell me what it is....

h/2 (yo + yn +2(all the other numbers))
yo = the first number
yn = the last number

Yes,

where h = b - a / n

n being the number of strips.
h being the width of the single strip.

a and b being the terminals (end points).

A = h/2 [ y0 + yn + 2(the rest)]

yes i'd like to remember the h bit as


h = b-a/2n


instead of adding the h over the 2


you've got it all in one ;) :p

Yep, with the h/2 and h/3's

h/2 = trapezoidal
h/3 = simpsons

@ our scool we got taught a different way to do simspons and trapezoidal (we use a table with columns-x f(x) k k.f(x) )
same shit neway but it jus seems easier 2 do

lol well that's not your exclusive method of doing it, it's the secondary method of doing these approximations, it's really good when they provide a table of values for you.
