MANN I WANT THIS phone!!

im just wondering if the GPS is any good, since that's the main factors I would buy this..

Anyone have any info on how its GPS work? Is it like just a map and Lists the directions, just like when you go to "whereis.com.au". I want a GPS function which tracks ur location in real time and also gives direction in real time.

time to sell my ipod 4gb and nokia navigator.. i guess =D
That's what a GPS IS.

I can't wait till GPS 2, when you get your own personal asian giving you instructions on where to walk via video chat. Preferably while they strip naked and blow a donkey.

I was told that because Australia is using a less common band range for 3G, it limited the amount of phone models the country got, since the phones need some extra tuning to operate in the more exotic bands?
No. This is wrong.

There are three 3G bands being used in Australia. Telstra uses UMTS 850 which is the same band used by the AT&T 3G network in the US. This band is used because it covers longer distances with fewer base stations.

3, Optus and Vodafone all use UMTS 2100, the band used throughout Europe. This is the band used by the most people by quite a large margin.

Optus is using the 900 band to expand its coverage. I'm pretty sure the only other country to use this band is Finland and the only compatible handset is the nokia 6121.

So yeah, we get most released phones, but many of them are UMTS 2100 only, and therefore aren't compatible with Telstra's NextG network. You are stupid to use Telstra if you live in a city anyway.

Im not going to buy a phone till people actually ring me on my current one.

As much as I wish it did, having a cool phone doesn't make people ring you more.

Price to come down from around $199?

Pass me some of that meth.
Im looking at buying outright man. Not keen for a 24 month contract.

Moar like ~$550 - $700 outright. Unless im ignorant and haven't spotted a link with the expected outright pricings?

When recently has an Australian network charged you an upfront price for a phone when going on a contract anyway.

What that to me?

No, everyone keeps saying that $199 is the price on a contract.

And if that's true, it's about as useful as saying most other phones cost $0.

ATM i'm on 3 but coverage is extremely poor and i was looking at virgin because they're reasonably priced and i dont use my phone that much. i definitely dont need to use 3G to search the internet so i dont want to pay for that.
I just wanna know if i can get a phone from optus/vodaphone and take it to virgin.

and before people say "if you dont use ur phone that much why do you want an iphone" i'm just gunna say, i want to combine my ipod touch with my phone so i have one less thing to carry around.

EDIT: is facepalm the LOLCAT of 2008?
virgin and optus work together, since AFAIK virgin use optus' towers.
