Im sorry if this is in the wrong place. I was just wondering if anyone knows when the list of how each subjects were scaled for this year is released and where they can be accessed?
I was really disappointed with my UAI and Im curious to know which subjects were scaled and by how much.
Thanks in advance.

It's available via the UAC website - http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2004-Table-A3.pdf

You should look at the scaled mean for each course. Courses with scaled means above 25 had above average scaling, and courses with scaled means below 25 had below average scaling. We haven't yet had time to rewrite the list in an easy to read format.

The scaling for most courses was similar to that of previous years though.

Thanks heaps.
I have one more question though, Im not really sure where to find my marks to work out roughly what they were scaled. Do the colums represent marks or percentages of people who got those marks?

The columns represent marks at particular percentiles.

The P99 column shows, for each course, the mark which corresponded to the top 1%.

The P75 column shows, for each course, the mark which corresponded to the top 25%.

And so on.

Ok, so if my mark was 84, I would have to look at 90 and 75 and take an estimate on what the scaling was?

Not quite.

Let's say you scored 84 in Biology.

You'd find the pairs of marks for Biology in Table A3:

aligned:  48.5  46.5  44.5  41.5  37.5  32.5
                           ^
scaled:   50.0  44.7  38.8  34.0  27.7  19.8
                           ^

Your HSC mark (which was 42 on a 1-unit basis) falls between 44.5 and 41.5 in the row of aligned marks. It will fall in the same position on the row of scaled marks.

So you can deduce that your scaled mark would have been just over 34.0 - let's say 35.0.

Therefore your aligned HSC mark of 84 in Biology was roughly equivalent to a scaled mark of 70.

This does NOT mean that your mark was scaled down. It is your raw marks that are scaled, and your raw mark might have been higher or lower than your scaled mark of 70. You need to look at the scaled mean to determine whether or not the scaling was positive or negative.

The scaled mean for Biology was 26.6 which was above the average of 25.0, so you know that you were scaled up slightly.

No.

It seems UAC has little or no accountability for UAIs.
