Ok im just wondering what WAM is needed for ANY award / medal at the end of the graduation.

Im currently on WAM on 80.1, i know this is nowhere near enough for anything but im just wondering how high should my WAM be if i were to aim for an award / medal.

(If anyone says 90 ill have a heart attack)

There's an website containing the requirements for UNSW Uni Medal, do a google search or something. I recall it has something to do with performance in Honours, and not so much your undergraduate performance. I may be wrong.

Uni medal is first in course. Beat everyone in your course and you will get it. The two i know of this year were ~90 and >>90, but apparently they're usually around 87-88ish.

Other awards are school-specific, ask your school's website. We had prizes ($1000) for first place in the different specialisations (in civil, so geotech, struc, water, enviro etc) that involved having the top average in subjects in that
area plus thesis (again, think 90+). There were also prizes ($300) for best thesis presentation in the specialisations (think thesis mark 85+).

On top of these, dean's medal is top 3ish in the year (every year), dean's list is wam>75.

Not necessarily. Topping the course does not guarantee the University Medal. The University Medal is not awarded to all disciplines in any given year. For example, there was no medal awarded in Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry in 2007. In previous years medals were awarded in these disciplines. The student must also show distinguished academic merit over the course of the degree.

Policy for the Award of the University Medal:

On the recommendation of a faculty or board of studies assessment committee, the University Medal Committee may award a University Medal to a student in an undergraduate course who has shown highly distinguished merit and, where Honours are awarded, has performed at a level significantly above the minimum required for honours Class 1. If there are specialisations within a course which involve sufficiently distinct areas of study, the Academic Board on the recommendation of the appropriate faculty or board of studies may approve that a Medal be awarded for each such specialisation. The University Medal Committee will take into account the whole academic record of the student in the course.

As the award of a Medal indicates outstanding academic performance, in the case of an honours degree significantly above the minimum requirements for Honours Class 1, it is expected that only in exceptional circumstances would there be more than one Medal for a particular specialisation.
