I'm wondering if any co-op scholars or ex-scholars could tell me about how it effects normal uni. [minus the finanical side, thats obvious]

Is it worth the extra time and effort? And any tips for applying is much appreciated, since I have no idea what they want.
[I'm interested in Engineering, mining/civil/mech]

Thanks in advance :D

Definitely worth it, almost guaranteed a job when you graduate because of all the networking you get to do and work experience you will have.

Just think about the person who's reading your application - you're more memorable if you have some unique stories or experiences to impart, over someone who's just bragging about their long list of extracurriculars.

yeah coop is definitely worth it. however, do make sure that you are interested in the area that you apply for and do not just pick up coop because you got it (so DO CONSIDER what you get). my gf is actuarial coop and she is doing very well in it. as someone mentioned above, you are pretty much guaranteed a job.
