unsw eng/comm or uts eng/business 🧐🧐🧐
is unsw commerce pretty similar to uts business ? i only rly want to do the managerial side of business - does comm still allow for this?
++ is eng at uts actually as bad as some people say? it’s made out as though it’s an absolute shithole but surely it’s not that bad😃😃😃😃

eng at uts really isnt that bad lol, id say it is one of their strengths. however, their biggest advantage is that it is standard to take a diploma of professional practice alongside the engineering degree, this allows u to get 12 months of work experience before graduating, which naturally is a large advatnage compared to the 3 months offered at other unis. however, taking the business degree removes this component, so you will also be getting 3 months of experience in the double degree. in this case i would say that unsw and uts are probably equal, though of course people will say that unsw's program is more intense and has more content and so on, which could be true due to the more compacted curriculum at unsw due to trimesters.

from what i know commerce is a less general degree than business, this means u would likely pick a specialisation and really drill down into that. conversely business is a bit more general and you wouldnt be as focused on a singular discipline, there is a bit more overlap (someone else probably knows more about this and can give better advice). the other thing is that it seems that uts' degree offers a major in management, but i cant see this as an option in unsw's degree.

both are probably good options, id say just pick whichever is more convenient to get to, and which curriculum you prefer, since one doesn't have the managerial major and one has trimesters.

Always UNSW > UTS. One is a go8. The other isn't.
not necessarily true. uts graduates in engineering make more than usyd and unsw graduates according to qilt (government data).

go8 is great for research; past that, without going into an individual subject/discipline level, theres not really that much difference between a decent uni and one that is in the go8 when an uni is on ur resume. i would say uts is a decent uni, employers know that its a decent uni and that you have the baseline knowledge to succeed, past that its more about the work experience that you undertook during uni (as a fresh graduate) or projects you were involved in

UNSW clears UTS in law and all the finance (esp high finance - ib/quant etc)

yea ik, thats why i said without going into an individual subject/discipline level. but in general, theyre both good. and for most people, the go8 status isnt really gonna matter the moment they get a graduate job.

Not true, you might be thinking of "Bachelor of Engineering Science Bachelor of Laws" which has the equivalent of a 3 year "Engineering Science" degree rather than 4/5 year "Engineering".

Engineering/Business is the full accredited engineering degree with embedded honours. Unlike the non-combined degree, the course offered through UAC does not include the Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice. But if someone wanted to do the diploma too, you can internally transfer and add on the diploma to Eng/Business.

As for Business vs Commerce, this is simply a naming choice. UTS B Business is their equivalent to UNSW B Commerce. All of the older universities in Australia use "Commerce", and may offer separate "Business" or "Business Services" degrees which are not equivalent. I believe UTS call it Business as that naming is more internationally recognised (e.g. "Business school", MBA naming).

It seems UNSW doesn't have an explicit "Management" major for B Commerce, but the Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship or Human Resources Management majors seem to cover some similar stuff if that's what you're interested in.

would recommend the diploma as well to whoever posted this, it’s very worthwhile
