I am a somewhat competent pianist and will be doing my diploma next year. I have become aware of the fact that the Conservatorium only takes about 4 or 5 pianists every year. If this is the case, there is almost no chance for me as my skills are pretty typical for someone my age and are nothing special. However, my strengths lie primarily in the areas of Music Theory/Musicology and that is what I really want to do. I fear this sounds like bragging but I have gotten 100% for every musicology assessment I have ever done at school and got 99% for one of my AMEB theory exams (with the other scores no lower than 89%).
My question is...is it possible to try out for the Conservatorium primarily as a Musicology student or do you only get accepted based solely your practical abilities? There is no information on this on their website and it is really worrying me because I don't want to get my hopes up and long for a place at an institution I would never be accepted into.
Sorry if this sounds ignorant...I have tried to do my research but their website has not really helped.
