UTS Graduates/Representatives came to our school today 30/05
and gave us a talk about studying at UTS

They explained the scholarship courses - it, acc, engineering, etc.

At the end of thier presentation i took the opportunity to ask questions...

Questions simliar to what u guys are wanting to be answered..

i know i shouldnt be telling u this to increase my chances and competiviness...

so i wont will keep my shut... when it comes to my career we have to do whatever possible to gain that opportunity.

so if u attempting to enrol for BIT@UTS 2004 stear clear ..

This is some advice i got..

but if you seriously wanna know give me a msg...

HMM...If i dont make it into Bachelor of IT(which i doubt coz they only accept 30 ppl...but im trying to be optismistic about it) which course should i choose? I think UTS is the best choice in terms of an IT course but im open to other suggestions!

1. Bachelor of IT Innovation
2. Bachelor of Science in IT, Dip of Prof Prac (B International Studies)

2 seems more appealing to me..only bcoz of the B International Studies...

both have its pros and cons...
1 is only a 3 year course while 2 is a 6 year course!!
both have work experience
both have similar UAI cutoffs for 2003 (around 86-87)

hmmm...any input would be great!

thx in advance :)

I'd strongly recommend the latter.

The benefits you gain from combining international studies with IT are immense; the extra language and foreign experience alone will give you an enormous advantage over every other IT student. Would also be incredibly interesting. :)

The time passes very quickly. One of the years is spent overseas, as well. In reality, you'll only have five years at uni, the same as any combined degree - and I doubt you'll notice the extra two years once you've done three. Though you may have a difficult time believing that now. :)

Yeah I totally agree!

I was wondering whether or not this new HECS reform thing gonna affect me tho...

i mean, its a 6 year course...i thought the new HECS thing was gonna be for 5 year courses only or something

mmmmm i dunno about being the best. I thought that too so i transfered from UWS.. and well the course at UTS is A LOT easier then UWS and they seem to pretty much try and pass you through everything.. i know they dont teach programming well at all, except DSPP..

the best uni's for IT i would have to say are UNSW and UOW with UOW proberly being the better of the two..

USYD are good for programming but crap for everything else..

UWS is alright just teach some old stuff in the course.

I think the IT/comp sci courses at UNSW are pretty tough...I've had friends cry to me saying they have to code an A.I in an impossible time frame..

Though I've only been doing them for a semester, I've found thus far that they're very rigorous (if you're actually interested in learning). However, the lecturers can be disorganised and I think it'd be fairly easy to cheat your way through. Well, we haven't had exams yet so maybe that last comment will be proven false. But if you actually want to build up your arsenal of programming languages, they're great. :)

yeah thats the same at any uni...

well people always say that a hard assignment is impossible...

but in the end it is very possible, lecturers wouldnt set un doable assignments
