I had always been wanting to go to usyd comp sci advanced up till about a week before the deadline for preferences.

After I had been to the co-op interviews and compared the life and facilities at usyd and unsw (I had spent a week at usyd for a programming summer school, most of the time spent in Madsen) I changed my mind and picked unsw comp sci.

Its worth a look if you haven't already.

Err.. I dont know anything about UTS software engo, i do soft eng at usyd and erm.. its ok, first year has not been as hard software as id like, (but then USYD takes in more private school boys who have no prior computer experience and need to start from basics) but by the end of first year is comparable in terms of stuff learn to unsw. Software engo at USYD, is currently viewed as a specialist form of Electrical Engineering, i like this for my own reasons but i can see why some people wouldnt, aparently the course will change in 2005 but i dont know what the changes will be. If you have any questions feel free to post and ill try to answer em.

Oh heres all the core subjects for a software engo degree at USYD
http://www.ee.usyd.edu.au/ugrad/Degree_Info/se_res.phtml

Its an ok degree, i wasnt too impressed by the first year subjects (physics:( ) and the assignments you get in first year are all group based and boring.. but second year looks pretty good and you do learn quite a lot of things.

yeah i think its changing for 2004 (for my year) coz i spoke to someone and they said that s/w engineering at usyd is more towards the I.T industry now... and then they started talking gibberish

ergosum, what made you choose usyd over other unis?

I reckon UNSW is probably more comp sci oriented, at least for first year anyway... USYD does have more of an electrical component...
So really, if you have no interest in electronics, go UNSW
