For those who received offers into UWS in the past, what was your ATAR and UMAT like combined? And for the people who transferred *cough* wooz , how were you going with uni? What was your GPA, ATAR & UMAT.Thanks.
Oh wow I see. For my prediction (GWS applicant), I received 95. If I score close to or above my predicted, they only rely on the UMAT score and the interview then? What about the other people who score ATAR's of 99 and receive similar UMAT and interview results? The same applies for UNCLE right?Unless you're trying to get a correlation between ATAR and UMAT and/or being accepted then that information could be useful.
But note that unlike say UNSW, once you get over the cut off it is only UMAT/interview that counts, so the only thing you really need to know if you must get over 95 if you're a non-GWS student (or something like 93? if you are GWS).
Once you've reached the interview offer stage, it's 100% based on the interview. Because of the differences between the Non-GWS and GWS umat scores.Oh wow I see. I see. UNSW doesn't, right? It's 1/3 weighted each.Once you've reached the interview offer stage, it's 100% based on the interview. Because of the differences between the Non-GWS and GWS umat scores.
It dosn't matter if you have 99.95 or 95.40, or 93.5 ATAR (for GWS) once you reach the threshold, the only determining factor for interview selection will be your umat score.
Yes UNCLE uses a threshold system as well.
Yeah, UNSW doesn't, I can't remember the weightings though.I see. UNSW doesn't, right? It's 1/3 weighted each.
Thanks.
I'm suprised that the average could be that high with a threshold system given that analysis of ACER data by universities in the past has shown there to be a low correlation between UMAT subtests and between each subtest and UAI.The average UAI for school leavers was 99.15 for the 2013 cohort.
I've posted this up on MSO, etc, and over students have said it as well. It was stated by the dean when we started, most of the school leavers we have are from selective schools and private, etc even those from GWS tend to be either non-standards which make up half the cohort (they weren't included, due to GPA's, etc) or from selective/private schools.I'm suprised that the average could be that high with a threshold system given that analysis of ACER data by universities in the past has shown there to be a low correlation between UMAT subtests and between each subtest and UAI.
This leads me to think that either there is a curiously strong correlation between UAI and interview performance, or someone is lying.
how do they compare umat scores? is it also a threshold system or do they have specific weightings for each section?Once you've reached the interview offer stage, it's 100% based on the interview. Because of the differences between the Non-GWS and GWS umat scores.

They weigh them so half the students who have reached either the non-gows or GWS thresholds come from GWS and the other half non-GWS. Last year they changed section 3 to weigh 1/3.how do they compare umat scores? is it also a threshold system or do they have specific weightings for each section?
I don't doubt that UWS could draw on the kind of population required to make such an average possible. However, given the intake stats on MSO from 2007 (indicating that there must historically have been a reasonable spread between 95 - 100) and given how many NSW 99+ students are sucked up by combined law and UNSW med it seems unlikely that the UAI distribution in the applicant pool would be that high.I've posted this up on MSO, etc, and over students have said it as well. Meh, the only two people who really know about that are the Dean the Prof of Medical education at UWS, but that's what they told us.I don't doubt that UWS could draw on the kind of population required to make such an average possible. Certainly there could have been a confluence of factors, but my statistical intuitions make me suspect that they used a weighting or an increased cut off for part of the selection process.
yeah thats what i thought as wellAfter you've been interviewed at UWS, does UMAT still count towards admission? I thought it was 2/3 interview 1/3 UMAT at UWS..
