The concept was introduced so Tony could have his champion decided at the final round. Also it was introduced to reward consistency, which is the main reason why Ingall won the championship last season.

Righto, I'm bored, I dropped the worst round for the top 10:
Lowndes = 2378 / 2218
Rick = 2277 / 2053
Winterbottom = 1983 / 1983
Ingall = 1952 / 1892
Whincup = 1880 / 1714
Tander = 1848 / 1848
S. Richards = 1812 / 1762
Bright = 1714 / 1714
Johnson = 1693 / 1693
Dumbrell = 1646 / 1596.

So thats a 165 point buffer between Lowndes and Rick.

I don't think it was a mistake to skip pitting in during that first safety car. As Lowndes said, the second caution period was closer to their strategy so they went with that. You'll notice they only did 4 or 5 stops whereas the others did 6 or so. Radisich's caution period helped because it conserved fuel a lot, but other than that, it was textbook Tactics 101 for Chess On Wheels.

As much as I hate to admit it. I agree with you. Triple 8's strategy was absolute textbook. 4 stop strategy, the minimum and maximum needed to get around Bathurst. I'm pretty sure the Kelly brothers and SBR took 4 stops each as well.

It did have me worried at first that they didn't stop under the first stafety car, to the point that I was yelling at the tv. They were very lucky that there was a safety car 5 or so laps later which saved them.

But Triple 8 have clearly shown from Sandown and Bathurst that they will not switch strategies based upon safety car influence during the race. This time it paid off :D

Its actually likely that Skaife's clutch would of held up after running a tad longer being made from Carbon, but you never know with a race that long.

If anyone Lowndes was always the man to win. Was rather emotional.

On a sad note Porter has been taken off life support and has passed away.
The other driver to which I can't remember the name has been breathing
on his own which is positive.

It's been a very black week in Australian motorposrt. A drag racer was killed over the weekend, as was a woman at an indoor karting centre, Paul Radisich was hospitalised yesterday and so were the two other drivers involved in that accident.

In truth, it didn't look to be too bad an accident. If anything, the third car involved - car 43 - turned Porter's car around slightly so that when Clark slid sideways into Porter it wasn't a direct hit.

Everyone, I'd like you all to read this, The Ballad of Jayne Cobb from the Firefly episode 'Jaynestown':
The Ballad of Jayne Cobb

He robbed from the rich, and he gave to the poor,
Stood up to The Man, and gave him what for
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF CANTON! THE MAN THEY CALL JAYNE!

Our Jayne saw the mudder's backs breaking
And he saw the mudders' laments
And he saw the Magistrate taking
Every dollar an' leavin' five cents
So he said, 'can't do this to my people'
'Can't crush them under your heel'
Jayne strapped on his hat, and in ten seconds flat,
Stole everything there was fit to steal.

He robbed from the rich, and gave to the poor,
Stood up to The Man, and gave him what for
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF CANTON! THE MAN THEY CALL JAYNE!

And here's what separates heroes
From common folk like you an' I
The man they call Jayne, turned 'round his plane
And let that money hit the sky.
He dropped it onto our houses
He dropped it into our yards
The man called Jayne, stole away our pain
And headed out for the stars!

He robbed from the rich, and gave to the poor,
Stood up to The Man, and gave him what for
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF CANTON! THE MAN THEY CALL JAYNE!
OK, so why do I have you reading folk songs from obsucre science fiction/western TV shows? Because I've re-written The Ballad of Jayne Cobb ...

Ladies and Gentlemen, for your reading pleasure, I present:
The Ballad of Craig Lowndes

Our support for him was never in doubt,
For today he broke Ford's seven-year drought.
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF BATHURST! THE MAN THEY CALL CRAIG!

They came from near and far away,
And they came in one big flock.
To remember the passing of a legend,
A man named Peter Brock.
And it was Lowndes who was set to lead the way,
The legend's friend and protege.
Craig and Jamie qualified in sixth,
And looked set to scratch our seven-year itch.

Our support for him was never in doubt,
For today he broke Ford's seven-year drought.
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF BATHURST! THE MAN THEY CALL CRAIG!

After three hundred metres, the departure of Skaife
Meant Lowndes and Whincup were looking safe,
A thousand kilometers is pretty damn far,
And a good part of that was behind the safety car.
He was slower from the Elbow through to Griffin's Bend
But the Triple Eight car held off Kelly until the very end
The man called Craig, stole away our pain
And he did it for his friend.

Our support for him was never in doubt,
For today he broke Ford's seven-year drought.
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain:
THE HERO OF BATHURST! THE MAN THEY CALL CRAIG!
Alright, so it's not the best ... but still, anything to get out of MM105.

It's more the fact you actually chose to take a ditty from a defunct tv series (which was awsm, admittedly) and spend time and effort rewriting it to be about a V8 supercar driver. :(

Took five minutes.

And it shows.

The chorus ain't half bad, it's the verses that kill the song.

It's not a poem, it's a ballad.

Yes, it's a FOLK SONG.

I've also noticed there's a lot of bad sports about (not sure who was booing who when the Kellys mounted the podium); a lot of Holden fans I know were up in arms saying Ford never should have won because Brocky was a Holden driver and therefore it was Holden's right to occupy all thre eplaces of the podium, ignoring that Lowndes was Brock's friend and protege or writing him off as a traitor. I think that if Brock were alive, he'd be disgusted at their attitude; I know I would be.

..
Lowndes can never be called a traitor, Peter Brock drove for Ford for 15 races, winning many of them, this was after the energy polarizer went belly up, Lowndes Deserved that more than anyone there, Although I do wish he had or repeated the burnout he pulled in Brocks's VS......

Did I miss the VS commo burnout...was it at Bathurst?
Or you mean the first VT commo that he raced at Oran Park and celebrated with a huge smoke show? That wasn't Brocks.

Really its all bogans talking shit really. They take it too far.

No it was the VS of Brocks, He had the door open and a helmet on unlike when he was in the VT, thats how he got the title the burnout kid, And beside the VS and VT looked a lot different.
