I started reading A Clockwork Orange today but couldn't get through it... the writer conveniently forgot that most people aren't gonna understand what the hell he's on about (tooooooooo much colloquial, makes for slow and jolty reading.)

.

haha..
Nadsat..
it's made up language.. [he didnt want the book to date]

but yeah.. i found it to be quite tiresome..
but if you can get past that, its got a great point to it...

dont disregard it..
perhaps try watching kubriks film adaptation of it and the book willseem easier..

also..
if you look online
there are nadsat glossaries..

Phaic Tăn, Sunstroke on a Shoestring by Rob Stitch, Tom Gleisner and Santo Cilauro. Parody of a travel guide and the writers try to make a squalid, corrupt and ficticious thrid-world country out to be an exotic locale.

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka...
Didn't understand it at all. I know he's trying to say something, but I dislike the story so much that I can't be bothered to delve into it.

The Light Ages - Ian R. Macleod.

Apparently, it's compared to Dickens. Let's see how that pans out.

Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey

I am known to often avoid and be overly critical of Australian literature, so it is a welcome change to find an Australian novel that grabs at my senses and which I have warmed to stylistically. The characters are so well fleshed-out; Lucinda, in particular, is a real favourite. :)
