Yeh im sticking with it, i got myself a tutor, so i'll see how i go. But i'm just curious how much of the 2 unit maths course is used in Uni? like which topics?

there's nothing called topics used, it ranges for different courses, you'll see the 2 unit maths subject is structured so that its broad enough for a variety of courses, good thing you stick with it, because 2 unit maths is good and really should be done in a year, rather than having to do it in a bridging course whereby you only have about 2 weeks to learn all that contents, u basically just run through the very basics if u do a bridging course for it.

Wouldn't scaling take care of the difference between general and 2-unit - is that not the whole point of scaling?

I always thought scaling was meant to take away the need to choose the "correct" subjects, instead it seems to do the opposite.

Well suppose you do 4 unit and would have gotten 90% in all tests in that. Chances are if you did general you would get ~100%. Which would be worth more? The 4 Unit

Yeah especially since General is capped and you would have 4 units of maths in the other case.

If you are of the ability to do 2 unit you should because the more difficult exams means small mistakes dont drop you down large percentiles and it isnt capped.

That is one of the many reasons to choose higher level subjects - the fact that silly mistakes won't hurt you as much -
also you are lifted by the higher level of ability of the students and the expectations of your teachers and classmates - not to mention the actual higher level material which undoubtedly improves ones mind - that is if you are an above average student - if you are having trouble with 2 - unit I don't know at which point it would be better to do general - 70%, 50%... what ?
Scaling is meant to create a fair playing - the capping of general also is fair - it just seems that if you want to succed in 2 -unit you must do 3 -unit and to succeed in 3 -unit you must do 4 -unit. It is weird to conceptualise scaling - what does it take into account and more importantly how can that knowledge help you exploit the system
It does seem to be very individualistic - generalisations are unhelpful - that being said - if you suck at maths (compared to your ability in other subjects, compared to the state, not just compared to the maths candidtes) DON"T DO MATHS. If you are good at maths do as much of it as you possibly can because it will have a cumulative effect (i.e all your maths marks improve even if you study for just one course - ain'y gonna happen with general maths and snr science by themselves) and it lets you have the maximum possible number of units of your best subject - if your forte lay not with just one subject it is still best to specialise as this makes precious study time more effective i.e less opportunity cost ... enough rambling - for now muahahahahah
