Does "Into The World" actually mean anything, or is it merely an allusion of journeys?

Yes 'Into The World' does mean something. It's best described as going from one world and into another. Eg: going from the world of primary school to the world of High School. It's not an allusion.

If you are studying 'Educating Rita', Rita goes from the world of being a controlled wife into the new world of independant, single woman. Rita goes from the world of being a hairdresser to the new world of working at the bistro. From the world of lower education to the new world of higher education. All these examples bring about change which are a struggle, or an opportunity.
