For 'silent shock' you could state alliteration. Also, onomatopoeia for 'shock'

I believe that you could class the following as:

1. "anthropomorphism"-- giving human qualities of strength and pulverising to the inanimate object of smoke.

2. "kinaesthetic imagery"

3. "Alliteration"

'Silent shock' is an use of sibilants (alliteration with the letter S)
Yes, I came up with other techniques for it, but this is definitely one as well.


Also, remember, it's not enough to just state the technique in an essay, but you have to explain what the effect of that technique is.
