what ranks do i need for 99.5? (1 Viewer)

hi everyone, i go to baulko and im just wondering what ranks approximately would get you 99.5+ on subjects english advanced, math ext 1 and 2, bio, chem, phys. also im really bad at english and am probably around middle of the grade, taking that into account, what would i need to rank in my other subjects?
also on a side note, does it matter what med school you go to when places are hiring?

Essentially, for a near-maximum ATAR, it would be reasonable to suggest that you should aim to place as high as possible within your cohort across your subjects. This is generally true regardless of the school that you attend. An example of this would be placing first across your subjects, or within the top 3 or top 5 students. However, since you attend Baulkham Hills High School, a high-ranked school, you can likely be on track towards achieving your ATAR goal without necessarily placing among the top few students. This is primarily due to the high academic capability of your cohort, which typically means that you can achieve a 99+ ATAR while being ranked slightly lower (for example, being ranked 20/100 in a particular subject). On the other hand, at a lower-ranked school, a rank such as this would lead to unfavourable performance due to a less capable cohort, hence the need to place as high as possible. Overall, you should do your best to place as high as possible, but should not stress if you are ranked slightly lower (which is possible given the competitiveness of a cohort such as yours), because that may still reflect favourable performance in a subject.

The answer to your other question is no. Generally speaking, the university where you complete a Doctor of Medicine program (or other medical programs) is not a primary factor that is considered when applying for jobs, unlike other fields, such as law, where there is greater emphasis on the specific university that a graduate attended, alongside other factors such as academic achievement and relevant experience.

here are some stats from 2023 of baulko: The top ATAR of 99.95 was achieved by four students. Two students achieved 99.90, and 4 students achieved 99.85. Overall, 56 students achieving ATARs over 99 - that is 28% of the cohort.

2022: The top ATAR of 99.95 was achieved by one student. One student achieved 99.90, and 8 students achieved 99.85. Overall, 59 students achieving ATARs over 99 - that is 29% of the cohort.

2020: The top ATAR of 99.95 was shared by two students - Caleb Hsiung and Tahia Mujtaba. A further six students achieved 99.90. Overall, 75 students achieved ATARs over 99 - that is 36% of the cohort.

2019: The top ATAR of 99.95 went to Patrick Nah who is Dux of the school. Two other students were a touch away on 99.9.

2018: The top ATAR of 99.95 was shared by three students. One other student was a touch away on 99.9.

2017: The top ATAR of 99.95 was shared by five students. A further two students were a touch away on 99.9. Overall, the school had 59 students (29%) achieving ranks over 99.

2016: The top ATAR of 99.95 was shared by five students who are recognised as equal Dux of the school. A further three students were a touch away on 99.9. All up we had 66 students (32%) achieving ranks over 99

med is med and it really doesnt matter what med school you go to, you will still end up getting the same qualifications. getting med from a more prestigious uni course might help in making connections but that doesnt mean much for a medical professional as opposed to any other profession like business or whatever. choose your uni based on other factors like student satisfaction, location, costs etc.

also if you're aiming for undergrad med its incredible to even get in so dont stress about getting into the most prestigious uni or whatever

baulko's "bad at english" is still okay but i would really recommend trying to rank higher internally at least. english is the one subject that will ALWAYS count towards your atar, its not like you can do better in a diff subject and make up for it if that makes sense. in baulko you'd have to be top 25% to ensure a 99 atar as a general rule, 99.5 would mean top 15% if i were to give you an estimate
