Another thing that i worry about is.. well i wanna go to uni (obv) but SO many courses require at least 2unit mathematics.. if i drop down to general.. i dont 'learn' the "assumed knowledge" that so many courses at uni require. That would mean either doing a bridging course at the end of next year.. or just doing a course without the assumed knowledge..

Hi..

Need some advice here.. im in year 11, exams starting 2 moro.. all throughout the year ive failed 2unit maths, every assessment i had and my half yearlys, ive gotten 30% and under.. im expecting another 30% mark in the upcoming yearly exams..

So, what should i do? is it worth me dropping down to general maths? im behind in SO much of my work, i havent finished half the chapters the class has been through, i barely know anything..

If i continue 2unit in year 12, im not sure if i will do well.. i have to admit i havent been studying the way a year 11 student should hence my crap marks.. i want to change that for year 12 but im behind so badly i dont know if that would help..

Do i have hope?
yes there is hope, if u really work hard i'm sure u cud get a band 5/6, i used the fitzpatrick book for 2unit and basically did every exercise and it has worked well as well as doing many past papers
i didn't find 2 unit maths that hard, i mean it was tricky but once u understand the concepts, the questions just do themselves

Our school supplies us with Jones&Couchman .. ive completed about 6 out of 15 chapters.. how the heck can i catch up that many chapters..

Even if/when i bomb out in the yearlys.. then in the 2 weeks holidays.. theres slim chance of me catching up all those chapters..

that book is good enuf, nah, if u really work at it i'm sure u cud catch up, but if u think its too much then u cud drop it

i think if your doing that badly n you know you will do better in general drop
but jsut remember you have to hope every1 else in general do alrite
because otherwise it will drop ur UAI
due to general not being a very high ranking subject
so if u want a highish UAI its sometimes better to stay in 2U
a 90% general is 60% 2U

That is not true. A band 6 in General Mathematics will definitely help ones UAI.

thats the first time i've heard that
Getting a Band 6 in any HSC course regardless will highly benefit you in the UAI calculations. The thing is that people who sit those 'low scaling subjects' like Standard English or in this case General Maths will generally not get a Band 6 - because of the nature of the candidature and the scaling and moderation of the Board of Studies.

Yeah a Band 5 would still positively contribute to your UAI - just not as positively as a Band 6 would :p
oh joy ^^
thanks xD

LOL no problem :p

Getting a Band 5 in General Maths shouldn't be too hard.
Just apply yourself, and you'll probably get Band 6. :)
