what to look for in a pc these days? (1 Viewer)

hah i need a new pc right now anyhow so im planning to get one or if i cant find a good deal ill get an old one and build it up with new features but features on a pc i look 4 is - dvd burner, good sound/speakrs, usb ports are a must and hmm internet yes it must have internet!! if im buying it, i want software with it - some just look good and have no good if any software with it and i need photo editing software and ms office and all that....thats about it, oh yeah i want a good screen too minimum 17inch for a betta view 4 games.

but seriously, i think a pc with all round capabilites. needs to run internet, games and multimedia well, good connectivity, and decent hard disk space. thats what i look for anyways, probabaly minus the games.

i don't think getting an 'all round' pc is good if you're not going to be using the features.

Get what you need or a little bit better.

no point getting an expensive vid card if all you do is type emails all day.
sure you might play spider solitaire, but you're not going to need some $500 card.
just make sure u know what you need.
vga, dvi, s-vid, tv tuner, etc.

Sound - if you have dodgy speakers, it doesn't matter how good ur sound card is, you'll get dodgy sound.


if you have sound ports at the front and back of your desktop, plug the speakers into the back. the wires will be out of the way.
As soemone above said. front USB is for stuff like ipods, digi cams, those sort of stuff.
If you don't have front USB's, get a hub. get a GOOD one.

You can never have enough USB ports.
devices take up heaps. and the cheaper devices get, you'll probably need more ports.
