In NSW. You can drive anything you want in the ACT. Also, if he can spend 25k$ on a car, I greatly doubt he's still on P's.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of this.

I just assumed that the poster was on his P plates as he/she was looking for a first car to buy. The high budget also seemed strange to me, but I thought that maybe his/her parents had money or something. In any case, I'd still recommend putting off that FPV, and buying something like a regular Falcon/Fairmont as a first car.

Whilst I agree that an FPV GT isn't a great suggestion for a first car, I'm curious as to why you would suggest an Accord Euro, Lancer or Mazda 3 over a Falcon.

I see your points. It all depends on one's needs, I guess. Everything on that list (excluding insurance) is irrelevant to my personal needs, and I consider the size of a Falcon to be a positive (for both safety and space reasons).

a mazda 3/impreza/accord etc are bigger than 15yr old commodores falcons

Yes, these days they do have all the active and passive safety features that Falcons do, and are by no means death traps, and are certainly safer than old falcodores. Size will still play a role in safety, though. However, safety is very unlikely to make a buyer choose to buy a larger car (that is why ANCAP hand out star ratings relative to the class of car they are in).

Mazda 3s, Imprezas and Accords are larger than VB-VL Commodores (in fact VB-VL Commodores are similar to a Corolla in every dimension except for length). I'm not sure about Falcons, but keep in mind that XD-XF Falcons are only slightly smaller than XA-XC Falcons.
