What piece of music, any kind of music, is the most moving, as in emotionally touching, for you

For me it's the Schindler's List violin solo.

* Celine Dion - Because You loved me; was played at my grandmas funeral when i was 10. I cant listen to that song without balling my eyes out.

* Ave Maria - song by lots of people... :)

* Mazzy Star - Into Dust

* Jane Siberry - Calling All Angels

There are lots more... i shall come back when i think of more...

This is going to sound really lame, and predictable coming from me, but Delta has this song, extraordinary day. it's about the day she was diagnosed with cancer. and the live version of it is utterly haunting. if i close my eyes and really concentrate on her voice, i can feel her pain, deep within me, and makes my hair stand on end.

its really chilling. especially the very last note she sings (on the visualise tour version)

actually, while on this topic,

is there anyone else who agrees that John william's score for Schindler's list is the greatest film score ever composed.

No. I fucking hate John Williams' work outside Indiana Jones and Star Wars. I also hate that film.

For me, there are a few tracks that pull emotional responses from me just off the top of my head: Breathe Me - Sia, Out & In - Kate Miller-Heidke, Fractions - Decoder Ring, Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása - Sigur Rós, The Great Below - Nine Inch Nails, Wise Up - Aimee Mann, Hurt - Johnny Cash/Nine Inch Nails.

The only one i can think of is In Flames - Come Clarity. Well, Opeth - The Drapery Falls was at first, but after a few listens it loses most of it's feel.

gah, no I'd have to say hans zimmer - gladiator. Although I would have to totally understand with you.

I'm not sure whether that's because a lot of his music in that score is tied with a few things in my life. But for me, currently, its:

Elysium, Honor Him, Now We Are Free - Hans Zimmer ..ie the end music of gladiator, it has the power to make me cry, anywhere.

Anything John Williams is great! But yes, that is a brilliant piece.

Fred Jones part 1 and 2 made me sad, especially part 2. I was also with my sister when we got teary eyed over coin-operated boy. I really have no idea why, its not an overly sad song.

des'ree - kissing you
jeff buckley - hallelujah, lover you should've come over

there are others, but the emotion in their voices in these songs is just amazing.

also, chopin's nocturne #1 in e minor, op.72, even better whilst performing it
nigel sabin's another look at autumn... ummmm
