soo I was looking at a past paper from 2021 for Ext 1 and I came across financial questions like this



I went over to check the advanced and ext 1 textbooks and it isnt listed as a topic or isnt even a subtopic for any in year 11??
Edit: Its a topic in year 12 soo is that just a selective school thing where they teach u topics early coz I dont go to a selective school

should I know arith, geo sequences (series and sigma notations) and stuff for prelims

For Year 12 Cambridge Advanced Maths it’s under Chapter 8 “Series and Finance”

It's an application of gp series sum. So yes you can be tested it although it is odd to see it given it's actually a topic more commonly used in the standard and advanced course for the yr 12 course. If you can grasp the overall intuition towards this nature of question, I think it would help you 1. be more confident in your prelim exam and 2. be prepared for financial maths for advanced.
