Ive been doing some late essay practice for tomorrows exam but i just wish they didnt have any essays or only one essay at max. 3 essays is quite a lot to write for a 3 hour exam. Its not english, its geography. I am hopeless at writing essays, i wish they tested u more on the skills you know like how to read different types of maps and how to work out the gradient or vertical exaggeration. Well what do u all think?

i worked out that they can ask for a total of around 12-16 different essay questions over the 3 topics..besides eliminating 3 from last yrs hsc...its still alot to remember...i suck in essays. in trials i got 28/60 :(

I hate it how we basicaly have to learn 8 topics - 2 ecosystems
mega city
world city
urban dynamic local
large city
global tourism
local enterprise

But we only get an essay on 3! What's the point in learning 5 extra topics - that are really boring mind you- and we don't even have to write an essay on it! Sure we might be asked short ansswers on it, but where's the sense in learning something for half a term when its only worth like 5marks!?

Doesn't make sense at all.

Less essays would be great-apparently they are going that way in the next couple of years- 2 essays out of a choice of 3.

Having 60% of the exam mark for three questions is rather stupid. Seeing there are 8 or 9 subtopics in the course, testing only 3 each year is rather limiting. Sure, no test ever tests everything- but most try to test at least something from each 'part'- i.e. maths will usually have something from each topic. Whereas from memory, there was nothing on World Cities at all in ours.

Apart from this, i would argue that geography is itself a subject better suited to short answer (whereas essays work for English for example). Geography should be more things like 'why does this weather dynamic happen', 'explain this process' etc, good old short answers. From what i've heard from Qld, WA, NZ etc, they are much more like that

Hmm...To be completely honest, I think the essays are essential for the exam.
For my trial, I managed a 34/60 for my essays, and 24/25 for my short answers.

But, the reason why I went so poorly in my Essays was because I didnt really provide enough information about the question (such as including some aspects of other parts of the topic) in my answer.

Im hoping confidently for a high band 5 or low band 6 for this exam.

I know I have one M.C. wrong so far.
