Jay Chou - hawt actor.
Sings alright-okay-ish songs.
Do you speak Chinese? I find it weird that some of my Asian friends who can't understand a word of Chinese, Japanese or Korean listen to Jay Chou, Korean Pop, Japanese Pop etc.
I listen to the songs for the lyrics and meaning whereas they seem to just listen for the beats.

Lol, no.
I don't speak a word of Korean or Chinese.
I understand some words in Korean, and I'm learning Japanese.
Well... I listen to them for both the beat and the lyrics; don't necessarily have to understand the language.
People have different reasons, lol.

OK so it's not just my group. I thought I was hanging out with a bunch of weirdos all this time.

heh thanks to whoever revived this thread :)

I still listen to mandopop, but nowadays it's just not as good unfortunately :(

i think there needs to be more of ppl like jay chou and leehom in the industry, writing more meaningful lyrics and really good music, not just applying autotune and writing lyrics that mean the same shit over and over again =_=

맞아요. Lmao.
Naice :) The cpop industry needs to have more songs that have more meaning :p

Believe it or not, a lot of Jay Chou's material has a great poetic meaning behind it. It's not like the pop you hear on the radio.
true that. Jay Chou's music was legendary during his times, and people even used it to learn about the Chinese culture. I think 聽媽媽的話 is one of the recommended resources for the HSC chinese heritage course
