i know i should know this by now but when you're writing up a report what do you write in the concluion and what do you write in the discussion?

In the discussion, you discuss and debate about the results that you have got from the experiment. You would try to explain why and how you got these results.

The conclusion basically sums up the experiment, and answers the Aim of your question. You write about what the experiment has proved, and what you have discovered and learnt from it.

Conclusion should answer your aim

the discussion should discuss your results, a scientific explanation for them and why they happened, then depending on the type of science applications in the real world, other examples etc.

In physics half the discussion is about errors and ways of making the experiment better. What outside forces screwed the results around.

The crappier your collected data is, the more you have to write in the discussion =).
