Okay, so we did our first practical (finally) a day ago. Unfortunately we weren't quite told how to go about it in our prac books. We were doing a slinky spring practical from Jacaranda Preliminary Physics.

Could anyone give me tips/tell me the layout that would generally be expected? I've got a general set of results down showing my observations but I'm not sure where to go from here. Should I answer the questions next, or do the Discussion and Conclusion first?

I would do:

Title
Date of experiment
Aim
Hypothesis
Aparatus
Method + Diagram
Results
Analysis (including perhaps a discussion, graphs, set questions ,etc)
Conclusion

I've since handed in that practical, and am awaiting my mark. On another note, my skills in writing Scientific Reports are a bit below standard. Could someone please tell me, should the average Conclusion include just one sentence, or should it be longer? What should I write in it that I haven't already written in the Discussion?

Simply the final conclusion. What was the final result. One sentence can sometimes be enough. Sometimes you may need to write more. For high school you don't need to say too much apart from the final result. Usually related to your aim/hypothesis.

Thanks me121. I forgot to check back, but as it turns out I found that out from asking my teacher in the end anyway :).

My physics experiments get graded ><

I usually have:

- Background info.
- Aim
- Hypothesis
- Risk factors
- Variables (independent, dependent, controlled)
- Materials
- Method
- Diagram
- Results
- Graph (if needed)
- Discussion (usually takes up a whole page)
- Conclusion

Hope that helps :)
