I didn't love it per se. It was a confronting book and definitely thought-provoking but some of it felt like she put it in for pure shock value.

I know my mom couldn't actually read past the initial few chapters and apparently there were a lot of mothers who felt the same way which I thought was interesting.

Well its about a young girl dying. I guess mothers read that and start to think about their own daughters in that situation.

Yes and dying in a graphic, brutal way - Sebold really spelled it out for her readers. I wasn't sure how necessary that was to not only the narrative but the underlying message of the novel.

Well, i like that kind of writing. it makes it more realistic and whatnot. Im not saying i like the concept, but it was an epic story in my opinion. in my PROFESSIONAL opinion, it was very well written.

There are eight year old pro writers. I have a few books published already so that makes me a qualified writer.

Yeah ok maybe i exagerated, but they're making it into a movie later this year and i cant wait lol

May I ask how if you're still in year eleven?

Still, it wasn't a bad novel but I wouldn't call it an epic by any stretch of the imagination. It wasn't trash but I wouldn't call it quality literary fiction.

Who's your publisher? I'm just curious because it's incredibly difficult to crack the Australian publishing scene.

And you're right, there are a handful of young writers who are successful and published but I'm going to stress the handful there.

Ah cool. I work with some people who used to be at Penguin.

Sorry to take the thread offtopic :) What in particular did you find so striking about The Lovely Bones? I know a lot of people like it but apart from having a confronting storyline and exploring the concept of heaven in a fairly shallow way, I don't really find this to be a classic, must-read kind of book.

The Puffin site is not an affiliate of my books, therefore if they were to publish the name of my books on my site i could sue them.
