Do you have a preferred operating system? Because the macs are one of the best laptops you can get, simply because of efficiency and battery wise.

Apple - Mac

Either the macbook or the Pro. They are both very good models.

While I agree, you can do better.

Mac are overpriced if you're not going to be using them for what they're for.

(I'm sitting on a 17" MacBook Pro customized for Audio Engineering.)

It really just depends on what you want the laptop for. Be as specific as possible so we can help you out :)

Ya. Like, is it going to be general use... Or used Heavily?

Only for word processing and movies? Or for gaming?

"Everyday activities" range massively from user to user.

I love this site for all things computer. The guys that run the place are REALLY nice and will help you out any time...

CCPU Computers - Laptop Computers

Also the cheapest I've ever seen. The above is just a link to their laptops section... I'd suggest taking a look around the whole site at other stuff too.

I'm actually thinking I should get a new computer from there now XD

go for any dell/toshiba/hp/asus in the <$2000 price range, macbooks are unnecessarily expensive (but have very good battery life, if that's what ur after), and i'd steer clear from acers and compaqs.

efhat's laptop is very good.

my laptop was $1999, 2.53ghz dual core, good gaming graphics card, 4gb ram, 320gb hard drive, AND it came with a 250gb external hdd, wired mouse, ms office student 07, and a carry bag. I got it from myer, so look out for those deals too.

HP Pavilion dv6 series are awesome, just as long as you don't need it to be exceptionally portable.

You got ripped off man. I got my HP dv6 for $1594.
2.66 Ghz
500GB HDD
4GB RAM (I think. Possibly 6GB. Can't remember.)
1GB dedicated graphics
In-built digital TV tuner

Yeah, it's probably not 6GB.
Got mine from JB. Was supposed to be $1799. I went to the same store on Saturday and it was still $1594 two months after I bought it.

If you want full processing power, like say the equivalent Holden/Ford, then go for Dell.

CHEAP & POWERFUL.

If you want a laptop that looks good, like say the equivalent of a BMW, nothing compares to a Mac. Amazing design, super battery life, decent specs.

They're offering a deal right now as well.

$1,449 Mac Pro (Uni-student discount)
2.26Ghz
2G DDR3 RAM
160Gb
256mb Video

+ Free $129.95 HP Printer (mail in rebate)
+ Free iPod touch $269 (mail in rebate)

Install windows on it if you don't like the MAC OS.

Didn't get the external HD, but my internal is 180GB bigger than yours, and I have no practical need for an external HD.
We have about 217615873245612 mice in a box in my dad's study, don't need another one. Besides, I like the in-built mousepad.
Have MS Office 07 at home, dad swiped it from work for free.
Didn't get carry bag.

Yeah, it's pretty much a brand new model. Only been released for about 6 months or so (I think). Pavilion dv6 1329tx or something.

Desktops are being faded out I think... unless it's a new user or a hardcore gamer. Most people prefer the laptops.
