I'm looking at exemplar responses and they're all upwards of 12 pages. Maybe the paper they used had less lines in 2002, but it has got me worried...

Exemplar's are much better than just band 6s, you could probably get a band 6 just by writing 6-7 pages if your content is good.

"generally" anything around from 800 up, considering you ans the question and have a quality response, should be a band 6.
Its just eco has so much to talk about, hard to fit in 800.
Having said that, if you are structured well and go straight to the point (being concise is the way to go in eco),around 6-7 pages would be perfect.
Yep, 2002 paper had less lines I think. But depends on the question e.g. if its on fiscal policy/monetary- average would probably be 10 pages.

good luck.

From 2009 and onwards they made MC more difficult (For real, your teachers should all know this). This then means students will have to allocate more time towards MC and hence Essays will be shorter. That is why maybe the 2002 exemplar is so long because i agree with most the people above

Forget how many pages you read anywhere, some people write like 6-8 words on a line but others 10-12 and that makes a huge difference to the amount of pages in the end.

In internals, I've gotten away with 5-page responses and received 17, 18 and 19 for them. That said, they were about 900 words each, so I suppose my writing's just small?

You should probably be aiming for around about 1,000 words, with 800 being the bare minimum.

talking about english or eco?

If someone writes succinctly, 800-900 could be enough for near full marks imo. I checked some of the exemplar responses from this 2011, they don't explain things in detail e.g. keynesian cross, all they say "increase in AD, increase in national income from ..." without elaborating on it.

but really, don't worry, its not about length. quality.
I tend to write a lot of eco, but only because I feel the need to explain every little thing/policy I bring up.

Where are you reading 2011 exemplar responses?

There's a book that BOS publishes that has them. And to chip into OP's question, I'm not sure if there is a required length for B6- I just like to write as much as I can haha because I feel like I'm missing an oppurtunity if I'm not writing for the entire 3 hours lol

Talking about eco. My english is something I don't even want to think about. ;) Yeah, I like bringing up random things that probably aren't relevant.

My teacher used to always advocate 20 in 800 words. Worked for me.

Quality not quantity
True, but I reckon this as well:

Quality + Quantity > Quality or Quantity. I don't know personally why everyone always goes quality over quantity:

Obviously though an 800 word essay that answers the question is WAY better to a 1000 word one that doesn't but other things being equal, the longer the better. Though you can easily get full marks with 850 words (if its very good)
Exactly - your essay ideally should have both. As my Modern teacher used to say, quantity sometimes has a certain quality to it.

Exactly what enoilgam said. Sometimes you don't have the greatest quality, so just have more quantity. Since I usually have an hour to write, I usually write 1200+
