Re: 2013 Australian Federal election

Joe Hockey hates Asylum seekers and has referred to them as "que jumpers." Tony Abbott is a right wing extremist who opposed fiscal stimulus during the Global Financial Crisis.
Tony Abbott wants a low tax economy and has seconded Hockey's claims that the axe should be taken to welfare. Tony Abbott said that Work Choices was the "workers best friend."

Re: 2013 Australian Federal election

Yes to that extent. End of.

The shelving of the ETS was a mistake but in the period following it he would still typically lead Abbott quite comfortably in the polls. If the current leadership government got the numbers Rudd got over that six month period they'd be fucking ecstatic. You can think of Rudd what you will, I don't care, my contention is that your view was not reflective of a popular one.

The constitutional legitimacy of Gillard's government is irrelevant to whether voters are going to resent her for staying in office after they voted her out.

Wrong.

I'm not going against anything, I am making the accurate observation that the primary consequence of the policy will be to make it easier for people to live conservative, nuclear family lifestyles in the way God intended them too.
Heaven forbid that you enter politics... To dismiss other influential factors (such as the Surplus lie) is foolish and immature. Politics is not just about leadership and backstairs intrigue.

The popular notion that Rudds handling of the ets was diabolically awful?

Ugh, please take your religion elsewhere. The primary consequence of the policy will to enable mothers to spend the time they need with their newborns, while blowing the budget at the same time.

Re: 2013 Australian Federal election

A mate of mine who is an Investment Banker at Macquarie Bank votes for the Australian Greens. He is from a very conservative background. He joined the Young Liberals when he was at University. Now he votes 1) the Australian Greens 2) Australian Labor Party. He said the defining factor why he votes Australian Greens and Labor is because of incompetent Tony Abbott. Tony Abbott opposed the fiscal stimulus in during the Global Financial Crisis. Tony Abbott opposed action on climate change saying that the science of climate change was "absolute crap." Tony Abbott treated the crippled Bernie Banton with disrespect by claiming that he was not "pure of heart." Tony Abbott's number one fan Alan Jones idiotically claimed that Julia Gillard's father "died of shame." Tony Abbott treated the death of an Aussie digger as "shit happens." Tony Abbott claimed that Julia Gillard has a big "target" on herself- inspiring evil people to assassinate the Prime Minister. Tony Abbott stood in front of sexist signs saying "ditch the witch" and "Bob Brown's Bitch." There are fewer females on Tony Abbott's front bench than on Julia Gillard's front bench and the Australian Greens Shadow Cabinet. Mark my words one day the Greens will become a major political player and may even form government. I laugh at those right wing shock jocks who claim that the Greens are socialists. The Greens are a mainstream political party.
I wonder what the direct action policy is? And their embrace of the reduction target? It is very possible that people can change their views, like your Banker friend.

What Abbot said was disrespectful - he should of said behind closed doors. However, just because someone is sick does mean they automatically gain a holy aurora.

My goodness. Clearly you're not educated in politics and merely only wait for the sound bites. There have been a number of incidents where jones and ta have been diametrically opposed in terms of policy, to the point of jones wedging ta on a major policy issue: that was mining on farmland, royalties.

I remember when this all came out. It still angers me that that stupid cretin of a journo mark riley would infer the leader of the op would be incentive to the death of a solider, and the war its self. Abbots comment may have been distasteful to some, but for people with military backgrounds (me, for example) then this language is in context and is appropriate, just even when talking about a death. The soldiers on the front are not so delicate as the puffery that the politicians spout out. Vietnam, case in point. Also, after Abbott said that, the ranking officer agreed with him and said words to this effect 'you're right'.

I'll leave that 'evil target' comment there. I think people can deduce what type of person you are.

Yes, Abbott miscalculated there. A stupid, disrespectful mistake.

That gets thrown around alot. It has no basis in an argument, especially if you are inferring that Abbott is sexist. Also the Greens do not have a shadow cabinet.

Just as you laugh at the shock jocks, I laugh at you for providing this forum with perhaps some of the most unintelligent diatribe I have ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on.

I have a certain degree of respect for Gillard, having to endure a minority parliament. If truth be told she will not live up to the Iron Lady status, tanks and nails are quite different. However, i'll hand it to her that she always does appear to be in control and ready to work.

I am not "educated in politics." What complete non sense. You are an apologist for a climate change denier, a sexist, a hollow, bitter, toxic man called Tony Abbott. Mark my words Tony Abbott's incompetence will not be tolerated. His do nothing approaches to the big challenges facing Australia is shocking. A very bad result awaits Tony Abbott at the next federal election. God Bless Australia. God Bless America. God Bless Julia Gillard.

Re: 2013 Australian Federal election

Whatever the influence of these other factors, they are swamped by leadership, or rather the perceived breach of trust that came about with Labor's choice of leadership.

The popular view was (and still is) that a Rudd lead Labor government is preferable to an Abbott lead Liberal government.

You really are stupid.
On this I agree. Leadership has swamped the political narrative of Labor, derailing their messages. Agreed the lack of trust is a major issue for Labor. What happend to the sole prism of leadership? Are your words failing you?

Rudd is only popular because of the electorates hate of Gillard. His numbers were sliding in the dying months of his first term. We need not bother with the implausible, impossible situation that Rudd will be leader of the opp. again. It matters not what Rudd's numbers are again, he will become but a footnote in history.

Re: 2013 Australian Federal election

You're not actually defending Abbott's psychotic behaviour in that interview with Riley are you? Arching his shoulders and shaking like some wannna be tough man when he'd been given advance notice of the questions?
If you were the leader of op, and it was inferred to you that you were being insensitive to the death of a solider and the war itself then what on would you do? I would want to scream and punch, personally. I believe Abbott was entitled to be physically and mentally perturbed by Riley's idiotic questions. Unlike you, I do not think pollies are perfect.

Moreover, the Australian electorate hates Tony Abbott more than they hate Julia Gillard. Gillard is more popular than Abbott according to Newspoll.

Julia Gillard is the Iron Lady of Australian politics while Tony Abbott is the mouse of Australian politics.

There's no rule that had to say the election only gets called at the last moment when the PM goes to gov house, I'd rather this than the endless speculation about the date.

It's a good tactical decision by Gillard - clever politics me thinks.

You think it's just a coincidence that Gillard called the election date on a Jewish holiday?
