Option 1: Transfer from BSc to BMedSc after 1st or 2nd year provided you have obtained good marks. The question is, why would you bother? Just pick a major within the medical sciences (Option 2). e.g. pick immunology as your major for your BSc (you can major in almost any disciplines in a BSc)...

    The official Medical Science thread

Hi Dombrovski, The Honours year pretty much works like this: 1. Near the end of your 3rd year, you start to talk to different academics who you wish to be your supervisor for the Honours year. At thi point, you want to establish something: 1) can you work with this supervisor? 2) do you like...

    poor undergrad marks..

MedSc or AdvSc/BSc majoring in a medical science area would all excellent for you. The added advantage of MedSc is the lateral transfer scheme from UNSW MedSc to 4th year Med if you are good enough (one extra route of getting into med). So based on that, MedSc would be best choice for you.

    poor undergrad marks..

Yep. I got offered a fully funded Cambridge International Scholarship to do a PhD over there. So I dropped my UNSW PhD and got a MSc out of it instead, so that was pretty good.

undergraduate degree for post graduate medicine

loul, I see an awful lot of students who are in your situation and all I say to them is really do something you enjoy at the undergraduate level. You can get a job in pretty much any field if you are good. I did a MedSc degree and I (and other friends) didn't have a hard time to find a job at...

    poor undergrad marks..

Casmira, I admire your determination and courage to pursue a second degree in an attempt to get into Medicine. Please be aware the workload in MedSc is twice as much as commerce (Contact hr 24-25 hrs per week) and you are expected to do a lot of self-directed learning. The first year is the...

    poor undergrad marks..

Whatever MedSc program you were in was definitely not the one I was in. I wish MedSc was that relaxed...

    MedSci 09

There are no major differences between all Medical Science programs. Just pick the uni/campus you like the best. Good: You do it because you are passionate about it, that is you want to know more about the human body, how diseases come about, how do you design drugs to cure important diseases...

For the Medical Science program or the Medical program? For Medical Science, both unis have a ATAR/UAI cut off of above 90. For the Medical Program, only UNSW is offering it at the undergraduate level (entry requirements: ATAR, UMAT and an interview). The Usyd Medical Program is graduate entry...

Impact of Uni Choice on Career Prospects

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Just to add to that, get more experience outside of uni and learn new skills. The perceived prestige of a degree or a University only goes so far. It will help a bit if you want to get ahead in academia but it really comes down to you and your...

Impact of Uni Choice on Career Prospects

Yes good thinking. Doing extra-cirricular activities is the way to go if you want to learn skills beyond what your courses teach you. It will also make you competitive if you wish to apply to overseas unis after your undegrad here in Australia.

    Griffith Accelerated Honours Biomed

To be honst, most of the Biomedical/Medical Science programs teach you similar contents. You get exposure to areas such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology etc. The difference comes down to whether you will be doing Honours (lab-based real research, 1...

BSc in 2yrs instead of 3yrs

I can see why you want to finish your Science degree ASAP and I completely get that. It is entirely possible to accelerate and complete your degree in 2.5 years (may be even 2) by overloading 1-2 subjects per semester. You will need approval from the Dean of the Faculty of Science and you...

    The official Medical Science thread

To be honest, there isn't that much difference. Pick the campus and the atmosphere you like the best and excel in all your courses. Try to get as much research experience as you can throughout your undergrad degree (if you want to get into research) and this will make you stand out when you...

The UNSW and USyd ones aren't accredited as well. I don't see my friends having trouble finding a job.. It really doesn't matter. High marks + Good experience > accreditation.

    The official Medical Science thread

All of my friends from MedSc are working in the field right now. I only know one who is still searching for jobs for more than 6 months (I think that's because her marks aren't very good). I have 1 friend doing cancer research at the Garvan, 1 at Sigma (a chemical company, she answers technical...

The hell of group work at uni

I'm pretty lucky most of the time because I usually get grouped together with my friends. Even though some of them aren't great, I tend to get into a leadership role and boss them to do more work because we sit together in every class and during breaks.

    Question about WAM at UNSW

Enginnering's cut off for first class Honours is determined by WAM over the 4 year degree. In Science, the 4th year is optional, so your mark in the 4th (Honours) year solely determines your Class of Honours.
