    Farting in an Exam

Ahh, good tactic. I remember during my physics yearlies, this girl at the front of the room farted really loudly. It was so loud and unexpected, we all just started cracking up and even the teacher was smiling. Needless to say, we all got pretty bad marks :rofl2:

    Study patterns

Yeah, +1. I didn't study at all for the whole year 11 in math and consequently got 40-50% as a result. When Yearlies came around, I crammed for a week and a half prior to the exam (several all nighters) and managed 80%. I definitely would have a better mark if I was consistent all year round...

To Study or not to Study

Sort of... being the uber dedicated person I am, I "study" during lunch and my free periods and when I get home, I study for an hour or more... but during my study time, I'm not studying continuously. Most of the time is spent daydreaming with drool hanging out the side of my mouth. How do I...

    Dropp chem or physics?

I think physics is harder because you learn many new concepts which take a while to get your head around, like projectile motion or those Einstein thought experiments (theory of relativity). With chemistry, there is none of that, it is similar biology in that sense. It's just straightforward...

    2 unit maths

Probability. Not only is it full of fractions (which I hate), it is the odd topic, compared to calculus and algebra which flow onto one another. I think probability belongs in the general course, where it should remain. Btw, why am I getting 500 internal server error every second page on this site?

    Setting the bar too high

You realize that many of the people on BOS are high achievers/ serious about their HSC, right? Hence the disproportionately large amounts of 95+ atar aims that you have seen.

Recommended Texbooks/Study Guides for Preliminary HSC?

Depends, if the book is less than 10 years old, go ahead and buy it second hand. Any older and you might as well buy the latest copy because some of the information may not be as relevant and/or outdated. The exception would be maths.

Lowest amount of people in your classes?

For Physics there are only 3 people in our class and in standard english, there is about 10. It feels like private coaching classes except I'm at a public school! Overall, it's a good thing but there's more pressure on you to preform well. Does anyone else have an insanely low number of people...

    Sample of Band 6 essays

Depends, I might share my HSC band 6 essays (if any) but only when I’m well past my education years. Just in case I plan on reusing parts of it for a uni assignment or something.

Is tutoring the secret to success HSC?

Tutoring is a confidence thing for me. It's extra reassurance that if I can't grasp a concept that my teacher is explaining, there's someone else that I can always go to that can explain it in a different way. With a tutor, you must remember that they're expensive so don't feel guilty about...

    A locus problem.

A and B are the fixed points (a,o) and (-a,o). Find the locus of P(x,y) such that the gradient of AP is twice the gradient of BP. The answer is 3a=x. Can someone show me the working to this problem?

    Comparing yourself to your S/O

In a male's ideal world, any weight that a female gains will go straight to her chest but in reality, it usually goes to her face or her stomach/ thighs.

    girls doing physics

Tbh, I never felt comfortable doing physics until I went to an all girls school. The majority of males in my old physics class was really intimidating and really affected my grades. I think it was the atmosphere, when many males get together, it becomes really rowdy. I think the learning...

How much preliminary physics knowledge do we need to retain for the HSC?

I've heard some people say that preliminary physics isn't that relevant to HSC physics. Like, how most of the historical parts are omitted, you don't need to know how CDs/DVDs and GPS work and you only need a basic understanding of how a circuit works for electricity. Can anyone confirm/ deny...
