    Student Poverty Week

That story is so old, there was a story more provacatively titled "sex for hecs" in the SMH last year. May I just say what a crap news story that is..... where is the current news? Where is the story? We have heard that all before... it had no currency! Must have been a slow news day....

SMH Opinion: No time to learn for learning's sake when a degree is at stake

I think she raises many interesting points. In my course, which is mostly local students, there are people who are lazy, and aren't even particularly smart, even though the UAI to get in was high. There are people whose writing style is pretty bad, when one would assume a good grasp of how...

    Rules for Customers

If you only have $15 to spend, try to make some attempt at figuring out what you can actually afford. Don't load up a whole trolley and then go "now I only have $15 so you will have to stop when I reach that".... and then get stuff deleted and try and add stuff until it is exactly $15.... then...

    Job after the HSC

Just get whatever job you can get your hands on, you can't be too picky especially if you don't have much experience.

    How to quit Coles?

supa it's because of the way youth allowance income bank works. At the moment I earn a lot more than you are supposed to work a fortnight, and hence I lose a lot of what I earn because of the weird way YA works. So I need to take time off work to build up my income bank so that I don't lose so...

    'Ward cleared' for Kylie

Yeah she should really be in a private hospital. Yeah she does need security and a private room, but surely there were other options.

    How to quit Coles?

Hey any coles folk (or more specifically ex coles folk) out there. I have to quit my job at coles because I want to go home over the holidays and it isn't financially viable for me not to due to the strange way youth allowance works with income banking etc. I asked my checkout manager if I...

Don't be so serious.... do you think I am being deadly serious when I am advocating bringing back Gough Whitlam?

    Anyone else a Crikey fan?

Yeah that's what I don't get.... I think crikey is fairly unbiased and quite analytical. Sure, they have a lot of opinion pieces but the difference between opinion and hard news is very clear.

    Anyone else a Crikey fan?

No news is unbiased. Anyone who thinks that you can ever find the perfect "unbiased" news is crazy. They don't even spout that objective crap in university courses anymore. Instead they use phrases such as "fair, balanced, accurate..." basically, try and eliminate as much bias as you can, but...

    Anyone else a Crikey fan?

Must say I am somewhat surprised at the reactions.... so many people on here bag out the mainstream media, and here is something which tries to be a bit different and does some critique of the Australian media.

    Anyone else a Crikey fan?

Like all media you have to scrutanize it but it is certainly a bit different from the mainstream, and I love how they often find out the information first and then the metro papers pick the story up from crikey. E.g. Crikey knew that Hinch was going to broadcast those comments about Graham...

    Anyone else a Crikey fan?

Is anyone else out there a big fan of Crikey? Subscribe to Crikey Daily? They always seem to get some of the biggest stories first.... and I love the rumors section in the daily, it's always really interesting. Some Crikey gold: http://www.crikey.com.au/articles/2005/06/01-1027-460.html

Yeah but it wasn't Gough.... Plus, it was the libs that made it so damn expensive.

    Journalism

I agree with what the others have said... you can get in to journalism without a media degree. I think the stat for intakes for cadetships in australia is roughly half half.... half from communications degrees, half from other degrees. You can also study a postgrad certificate in journo for a...

    You guys really need to...

LOL the accomodation is not really on campus.... one of the residences is all the way over the other side of Cleaveland St in Chippendale... My building must be building 11, cos it is the newest.

    The campaign to 'fix' Sydney

I think anything which encourages more environmental awareness is a good thing. Hopefully the Herald will actually push this instead of forgetting about it quickly.

Mmm tuna.... cook it on your tongue For some reason, cooking the tuna on my tongue doesn't really work for coles brand tinned tuna. Did you hear them say that tuna was worth like 10000 dollars?
