    O-week meat-up?

Any of the days would be good. Where were we planning on meeting?

    Official assessment rankings.

I was pretty happy with my rankings: English Advanced - 4/24 Ancient History - 3/19 English Extension 1 - 2/5 Maths - 1/15 History Extension - 1/2 Legal Studies - 1/7 So hopefully decent HSC marks and I can get 85+

    Multiple Choice

My answers: 1. D 2. B 3. B 4. A 5. D - well, the Inquisitorial system is a given, and natural justice is in our system and thus isn't a distinct feature of the civil law system, so it's D. :P 6. D 7. D - this was difficult. A may have been it, but it talks about human rights, they are...

    Estimate Raw Mark Band Cutoffs

That sounds more sensible. Like in the Greek World (500-440) question about assessing the importance of naval battles in the Persian Wars, a quote from a historian or two about the issue is relevant, but I think they're more looking for the fact that you can look at what happened and assess the...

    Raw Marks-Moderated Marks

I'm hoping for at least 35, as an aligned mark. What would be the cutoff for 40/50, then? Mid-high 30s raw?

    Estimated Marks

I think that I'll end up getting at least 85+. I got 88 on my trials when I only got 17/25 for Pompeii, and I got 25/25 in Persia for that exam. So my guesses would be: Pompeii - 20/25, maybe. I think I answered the Religion question and the Water question pretty well, despite how little I...

    Genre

Well, I hope that I can scrape together at least a 35-ish type mark. xD I think the creative was definitely my strength, I couldn't manage to link the question into values or conventions as much as I now feel I should have. D:

I have come to the conclusion that my essay was crap. :P

It sounds pretty right. I had trouble getting my values and conventions in. My teacher always used to tell me to look at what they're asking, and if it seems too simple, they're really asking you something else. So I just kind of took it and talked about order and disorder. :P In fact, I didn't...

    Genre

Well I did Crime fiction, and I have to say, it wasn't too bad. The essay was unexpected, but the creative was fine. For the essay, I talked about how all my crime fiction texts dealt with crimes of passion, and by confronting passion with a sense of detachment, the detective could bring order...

    General thoughts?

Crime fiction was decent. The creative was good, the essay was a bitch, but I think I handled it. The storm annoyed the crap out of me. Heh, we had about 5 guys doing construction in our year. They all turned up to the exam half an hour late and all left as soon as the first hour finished.

    Section II - Society

Persia during the time of Darius and Xerxes was pretty good, I'm glad they gave us a question on Religion for 12 marks. :D

    Section IV - Historical Period

Re: Section IV - Historical Periods Awesome. :P I actually had a few perfect quotes from Plutarch for the topic. One was when he said "The Greeks were saved, in the end, by their supremacy at sea", and when he discussed Themistocles' victory at Salamis, he said that in playing a role in...

    Your Exam Supervisors

Our head supervisor this morning for the Ancient Exam was really hypo, it was quite funny.

    Estimate Raw Mark Band Cutoffs

Well I'm hoping for high 80s/low 90s raw, so if I can get that, I'm happy. Maybe my high 80s might be bumped up to a band 6. :P

    Section IV - Historical Period

Re: Section IV - Historical Periods Well, I didn't particularly reference the battle and just shove a random summary of the battle in for no reason. The crux of my argument that was since Salamis set the stage for a Greek victory at Plataea, it was, in essence, the most important battle of the...

    Estimate Raw Mark Band Cutoffs

Why do you necessarily have to reference a modern historian to get a band six? For things like the Greek World and Xerxes, all modern historians do is work off the ancient sources, which are ... ancient historians, so it seems kind of futile to require they reference a modern historian.

    So, who's finished?

I finish on Thursday. Extension 1 tomorrow, Ext History on Monday and Legal Studies on Thursday. It probably won't feel very different. I'll probably just bum around at home playing video games like normal, but at least I have the freedom to do that and not feel guilty.

    Section IV - Historical Period

Re: Section IV - Historical Periods Same. I had a perfect quote from Plutarch for it, too. :D I got 8 pages out, I was a few lines from needing a new booklet for my response. Pretty good, I think.
