Yeah in most Asian countries you have exams every year. Even in kindergarten, if you get crap marks, you have to repeat the year.

Observing this thread, it appears to me that some people are only using this as an excuse for their marks in English.

Especially in James Ruse. You lose 1 mark and your ranking goes down by like 10 or possibly more.

The handwriting thing works especially well for subjects like Biology where you memorise the material and just regurgitate it onto the short and long response questions. Once you get into the exam room and find a question, you can think to yourself, "Hang on, I've written this in my notes...

With maths you can never really take it lightly. I'd suggest about 2 hours of maths a day and 1 1/2 hours to revise on other subjects.

I think it's a part of Kevin Rudd's education revolution. I definitely remember him saying something about a national curriculum.

I think that pretty soon they will replace the HSC with a National Exam in order to make the quality of University students at a constant standard throughout the whole country. That's what my tutor said anyway.

In the exam room you're going to write. So if you write out your notes your brain might sense and be familiar to the hand movements and material as you write them out in the exam, because it has gotten to used to seeing you write it out.
