    The Literary Acquisition Thread

Second hand book shops are great, you can pick up books so cheap, and they are often in quite good quality. Shame the ones where I live are so disorganized!

Extension Subjects = High UAI by osmosis?

13 was enough for me! I'm also so anxious about ex 2 english... you really throw yourself in to your major work, and I don't want to be brutally cut down by the BOS or anything!

My friend and I are doing the same text but different focus >> allowed?

    Help in developing my idea

I seem to remember in the marking notes from last year that the examiners said that the link between adv/ex1 and your major work needs to be shown. From 2002 Notes from the Marking Centre: "Links with English Advanced and Extension Candidates are reminded that the Major Work is an...

    Help in developing my idea

It sounds like a really good idea. Are you studying brave new world/blade runner in advanced? Because both of those show dystopian futures and that would be a good way to link it to the advanced course (the extension 2 course should be an extension of knowledge you have gained in adv or ex 1)

    Creative Responses

I did I&S, and for creative responses I MADE SURE that I was addressing 19th century paradigm (ways of thinking) in my response. You will really lose marks if you don't make sure you incorporate the ways of thinking that you have studied. Sometimes it can be so tempting to neglect this as you...

    Values (in Genre)

I'll add some more, using I&S examples. My English teacher had a mantra which stated that themes imply the values of a text. For example, one of the themes in Pride and Prejudice is marriage. Through the text, Langton implies the value that marriage for convenience or mercenary gain does not...

    Poetry?

Yeah Huy gave you some great advice. I did poetry... and the way I covered up some "personal experiences and feelings" that I didn't want to publically "attach" myself to was to create a persona other than myself. You may want to do this if you are writing really personal stuff but you want...
