    AAS

I don't have the book on me but generally the ASS component is good in terms of knowing theory like how it works why is it used etc, i think there is probably more theory than calc questions on it (dunno if the styling has changed). The HSC questions are good to work off, if you have more recent...

    HSC Chemistry Marking

It is arguable i don't doubt that however, i'm just talking from experience, i was marked in a way when i did the HSC that more isn't better like there are instances you could get the same mark as someone who wrote a paragraph to your page. It's just that if you can be concise do it, at the end...

    HSC Chemistry Marking

Marker discretion, but some believe being coherent is being concise in a sense. Some students may try to do a hit and miss, where they kinda brute force the question write everything they know, this is sort of to counter them which instead of getting a 5 you get a 4, because you still had the...

    HSC Chemistry Marking

Being concise helps but not necessary depends on the criteria they use, some marking criteria has that from 4-5 for being concise others might not hahahaha

    Degree of ionisation

alternatively you could use c1v1=c2v2 you'll see that the value of c decrease and dumping that back into -log(conc) you'll see that rise :)

    Identification of Ions Prac

no usually it's just a qualitative test not a quantitative

    Biochemistry

You could just learn the option for the sake of the trials and pick up another one for the HSC

    Identification of Ions Prac

Something like you are given an unkown mixture, blah blah using flame test and other tests, identify the unkown anion/cation

How does using Data logger and ph meter improve accuracy in titrations.

Consistency of the results yielded (so tighter grouping), means that the results become more reliable i guess, so doing it with more repetition can improve that. reproducibility improves validity. Accuracy is hard to improve unless you decide to just use a machine that does it for you LOL

    accurate and unreliable

Depends how you define it, being accurate as getting the right values but not following the procedure being the unreliable bit then it is possible. All it means the reproducibility is low unless you set a new protocol in which case you'd have to test again and if it produces the same results...

    USYD Strike

I'm pretty sure most faculties don't care much for the strike anymore, and most students will just find it annoying unless you're first year LOL, but then again maybe i'm not very into the politics of the system, but i just really don't see much people riding on the same boat as the union...

    titration...

I think Kimyia explains it correct with the primary standard. It generally involves a very stable salt that can completely dissolve but doesn't exactly change its weight when you are making it so not like NaOH which is unstable, however NaOH can be used as a standard solution, once it has been...

Identifying Cations and Anions in unkown solutions

Off the top of my head i wouldn't remember but if you have the Conquering chem or have access to it, i believe it has a comprehensive flowchart that can be followed to identify a cation or anion and the combination of both :)

    AAS pollution help

ok so i did a quick plot on excel and the equation is y=45.45x+2.117 where y is the PPM and x is the ABS Now going off the standard ABS 1ml 0.083 = 5.88935 ppm 2ml 0.164 = 9.5708 ppm 4ml 0.331 = 17.16095 ppm ppm from memory is mg/L so you can back track from there where it went wrong should be...

    AAS pollution help

I'll prolly need another member to confirm, cause AAS calculation is really rusty but, the first bit up until you give me divide by 250 looks ok, it should be 2.72mg/ml not 2.72mg/L. Other than that i'm gonna need some answers to reverse engineer how you got it wrong XD. Only other thing i could...

2013 HSC Chemistry practical exam help

I forgot the name but it sounds to me the calorimeter prac, so depends it can be a salt or something dissolved in water and measure change or it can be spirit burner, most likely spirit burner tho and you just calculate the energy change in respects to temperature change

    Nuclear chemistry question

To answer the question, i guess its easier to visualise this as a pie, so lets say it takes me 2.4x10^4 years to eat half the pie, now as i'm eating the pie i'm getting full so i'm only able to eat half the portion i ate before, and as i continue i'm getting more full so it means each time i'm...

    titration question- help needed

C1V1=C2V2 is used for more than just dilutions, if anything lol i forgot to add n at the begining of each one because of the molar difference, in essence your comparing the equivalence in acid to base parts which this can be applied for

    titration question- help needed

ok i think what is missing is direction, your working takes a bit of time to work my head around, but i believe your actually missing the step when trying to get the concentration of acetic acid, C1V1=C2V2, thing is you kinda just jumped steps, meaning its hard for me to work out what you have...
