is my father right - how much of a factor is the 'reputation' of the uni? usyd vs UTS

Re: is my father right - how much of a factor is the 'reputation' of the uni? usyd vs I'm amazed at the fact that you make pronouncements as if it were a categorical truth. Being that you are 2 years away from even GETTING an ATAR, and being that you have no direct experience with tertiary...

is ur atar enough for usyd merit scholarship?

Has anyone here gotten a merit offer for Arts? An amazing friend of mine - incredibly qualified EC-wise, eloquent writer, and a 99.5+ ATAR didn't get one. I'm really completely gobsmacked.

How many words for 5 mark, 10 mark, 15 mark, 20 mark questions?

Oh my! I just noticed this in your post Cem. :( I really loved that section! And source analysis is such an important skill. I always felt that doing something structured like the 10 markers, was a good segue into the extend responses. Oh well, I'm sure students will adjust and adapt.

How many words for 5 mark, 10 mark, 15 mark, 20 mark questions?

Oh wow - I had no idea about the incoming multiple choice!?! One thing I really enjoyed about Modern History (and English for that matter) was the focus on conceptual knowledge - ie. being able to see the "big picture" rather than a focus on the nitty-gritty (which is of course important too)...

How many words for 5 mark, 10 mark, 15 mark, 20 mark questions?

The qestion is WAY too general, how much you write depends entirely on the subject! Here are the different categories - other posters would be more qualified to fill you in on certain categories. 1. Sciences 2. English 3. History 4. Economics 5. Business Studies. 6. Languages. 7...

does all this stuff come on 12th?

    I'll re-confirm. :)

Is it possible to achieve 99+ ATAR from taking both histories?

Great to hear your perspective! You've sold me - I can definitely see where bio would be more relevant, and its great to get it from the source :) PS. Your subjects were practically identical to mine. I actually did 3U Maths and Chemistry until the middle of term 2 in Year 12. I ended up doing...

Is it possible to achieve 99+ ATAR from taking both histories?

Precisely. And people going into Med with NO chemistry background will struggle. Fact. ETA: Or not. Listen to Zephyrio - he knows better than I. You've made two of what we who study logic and rhetoric term "logical fallacies". 1. Argumentum ad verecundiam - appeal to authority...

    - cont - Its just a matter of using Yr 11 to keep your options open, then in Yr 12 adding and dropping as you wish. I mean, I dropped my maths extension weeks before the trials - because even though i was doing well, I knew for a fact it wouldn't count based on my results in other subjects...

hahahaha...your sig!! Keep in mind though that Yr 11 is a great year to have as many subjects and units as possible, because if you want to do the course in Yr 12, you will need to have done the Yr 11 course. Eg. My prelim year, I had Modern History, 3 Units of English, Economics, Business...

    Overstudy and Burn out.

I got full marks in basically all my internal assessments. My trial mark was 98. The moderation is pretty irrelevant to anyone who isn't from my specific cohort at my specific school - moderation is done according to YOUR cohort. Mine would have no relation to yours. We had 250 people do Eng...

Is it possible for somebody with a really low IQ like 110, to achieve a 99+ atar?

Abit of a dodgy question imo. 1. How many people even know their IQs anyway? 2. To what degree can we measure the IQ with any accuracy - for example professional testing? Testing on an online quiz? Its hardly scientific given the variety of tests and their varying qualities. 3. Do we know...

    Roll Call Prelim 2010

Heya buddy, re: the question, you're fine. Your subjects: Eng Adv is great, 2U Maths is great, Eco scaled brilliantly this year, as did Physics, Chem not quite so much - but that doesn't really matter, it still scales well enough. Dunno about Jap, but SOR scales pretty reasonably. But...

    Overstudy and Burn out.

The trick to not burning out (imo): - Do the subjects you love, so that "work" for those subjects don't even feel like work, but is instead actually enjoyable and meaningful for you. - Keep up your extra-curricular activities (sport/music/debate etc) so you feel like a real person with an...

Thanks for the rep and message, Best of luck with everything! Happy holidays, Wendy. :D - Lol, I have no idea why Boredofstudies posters seem so adamant about the "asian combo". I mean out of the 10 or so 99.95ers I know personally, 7 did 4U english. If that isn't enough proof that Humanities...

    Extension

I can't believe I still have to defend the humanities  Have you taken the History Extension course? If you have, then you would know that its a TRUE extension. It's not a rehash of any other topics and it takes you MUCH further in terms of skills and level of analysis. For example, in...
