What are the odds my resume was binned?

Why are you averse to applying online?

Tell me about Australian High Schools!

another interesting article including comparisons and experiences from Singapore! https://www.smh.com.au/education/in-china-nicholas-studied-maths-20-hours-a-week-in-australia-it-s-three-20191203-p53ggv.html

    Atar Estimate

Doesn't it change year on year though? I feel that ATAR/UAI estimates are so inaccurate anyway that they either create more anxiety, or a false sense of security encouraging complacency. Just focus on doing your best and go from there.

    Atar Estimate

I remember at my school the YA and principal was reluctant to give individual estimates and instead would only quote that the median UAI (at the time) was 97.5. I think for those applying for certain scholarships/courses, the principal would provide something more specific if required but it...

    Atar Estimate

There used to be a web based app back in my day to do it (on BoS) and whilst it was reasonably accurate for me (<0.5 points different), that was when I used the already adjusted marks from my final results letter rather than my internal pre-scaled/pre-moderated school marks.

    Atar Estimate

Aren't you guys literally finger in the air guessing here given the limited data available, and there being no real sense of comparable relativity?

Work Experience in the Legal Profession

Whilst I didn't work in the field, friends of mine who did had to volunteer at places like their local legal centre or Legal Aid to get relevant experience before they were able to secure clerkships or associateships. It's pretty competitive and very limited in numbers so you may find yourself...

So what are you guys playing at the moment?

Nuts I didn't finish FF8 Remaster but on third disc... got distracted by Pokemon Shield and NFS Heat, and now Halo Reach on PC through Game Pass. I think I have let myself accumulate too many games which I won't have time to play given I'm on full time parental leave now, and still barely play...

    UTS - BAcc HELP !!

The rule of thumb (in my time) was you should've been able to get into B Business regardless. Conditional offer is what everyone gets subject to getting the final ATAR results because up until this point, they don't have anything reliable to gauge your academic performance relative to everyone...

    English is whack

I'd also add one thing though - whilst it's easy to blame subjectivity in the markers, the reality is that even in the HSC (and more broadly in life) there will always be subjectivity in assessments. Sure there may be a criteria for scoring and/or some best practice examples, but the reality is...

    English is whack

Either ask your teacher for specific feedback, or maybe try sharing some of your work here for independent/constructive feedback and criticism?

Big 4 Audit vs Insurance Company Grad Program

The way I see it is one of those options is a well trodden and clearly defined career path with clear expectations, progression path, a CA qualification (you'll need it in audit), and a well recognised brand for your CV. The alternative is an easier job with more money (like most commercial vs...

Tell me about Australian High Schools!

An interesting article on education standards which compare Oz with Singapore (and others) > https://www.smh.com.au/education/alarm-bells-australian-students-record-worst-result-in-global-tests-20191203-p53gie.html

    UTS - BAcc HELP !!

The conditional offer is subject to meeting the ATAR requirements which aren't explicitly stated. As per page 7 of https://www.uts.edu.au/sites/default/files/2019-02/uts-business-accounting-course-guide.pdf :

    UTS - BAcc HELP !!

No, I went down the accounting firm cadetship route and didn't end up applying for BAcc.

    UTS - BAcc HELP !!

Pretty sure they don't publicly disclose that as it's entirely at their discretion whether to accept someone. Back when I was applying for these things (long long ago), the rule of thumb was you should be able to get into B Business. There's always been a couple of exceptions to this but as far...

    Best economics dictionary?

I didn't even realise there was an economics dictionary... maybe the HSC has changed alot since I did it (hah i'm old), but I thought anything which was important enough to be defined would be in the textbook anyway, and the risk you run with internet definitions is they may differ from what...

    Actuarial Co-op

Take that one step further and it becomes a matter of why the businesses sponsoring the co-op would want you. Work that out, and you'll know how you should approach this. (hint: doing a VET course whilst helpful, probably won't be enough AFAIK)

Tell me about Australian High Schools!

Keep in mind that whatever extracurricular activity you do whether it be sports, debating, chess, or whatever, it's not so much about the rank or result but rather what you learnt from the experience... or what it says about you as a person.
