    Relationships & HSC

If you break up with someone purely because you think 'Oh no, the HSC is coming up', then that's a very poor reason. But if you give it a go for a while, and you're both not coping, then maybe breaking up is a good idea. Spending all your time studying and neglecting the person is definitely not...

    Coming out stories...

Was with my friend, and we were talking about how we thought most people had the potential to be bi, but some more than others, (obviously) and then I just said 'Yeah, I think I am, 'cause I really like this girl'. And then my friend went 'Yeah, I think I can guess who it is'. And that was...

    Polygamy in Australia...

Maybe he means that there'd be less focus on one person, so you wouldn't have as much opportunity to get pissed at each other and argue, and when you did, you could just spend time with your other wife (or husband).

    Coming out stories...

Just wondering what people's stories are with regard to this. It can be about your own coming out, someone who came out to you, or your experience of seeing someone who's just come out, but you haven't actually talked about it with them. One of my friends came out to me in stages. First she...

Abbott thinks reading the Bible should be compulsory in schools

Ok. Thanks. :) All in all, I don't think the Bible should be read at *all*, unless kids choose to go to scripture lessons. As it stands, where 'religious' education is compulsory, if it must be, it should be much broader.

Abbott thinks reading the Bible should be compulsory in schools

I'm not disputing that we should. I'm suggesting that we read Origin of the Species as a supplementary text with the scientific teaching that already exists. Look, I'm an agnostic. I think that the literal interpretation of the origin of life in the Bible is untrue, and that the theory of...

Abbott thinks reading the Bible should be compulsory in schools

I'm just saying that if there *has* to be religious texts that they read, there should also be scientific texts to balance it out, to give a broad view of things, and to prevent them making an assessment based on one text. I'm not necessarily making a value judgement on any of them.

    Polygamy in Australia...

Okay, well, obviously there's a lot of debate on these forums about homosexuality and how it relates to marriage, relationships and sex. So what about other forms of relationships, like polygamy? What to people think about the existence, and/or the legalisation of polygamous marriage in...

Abbott thinks reading the Bible should be compulsory in schools

Yeah, okay. If they also read the Qur'an, Buddhist texts, Hindi texts, Origin of the Species, etc., and are encouraged to make up their own minds about these texts.

    Homosexuality in Australia

In the end, what right do we have to tell others they can't have a partner because we don't personally identify with their sexual preference? That's like telling someone they can't marry someone of a different race, or religion, simply because it doesn't sit well with our personal morals.

Can religion and science be on the same side

I think they can, however, it depends what your concept of 'God' is. People who believe literally in the anthropomorphic God in the Bible, as well as in the 7 days of Creation are obviously going to disagree with science entirely. However, I have come across many who believe that 'God' could be...
