    Homosexuality in Australia

Well I guess that depends on what you define as a disease...it's no longer listed as a mental illness within the DSM criteria. But if someone who is gay truly wants it 'cured' and there was a way to do that, then it's their choice. I still think that doing that is less important than looking at...

    Homosexuality in Australia

In the end, does it really matter what exactly causes homosexuality? The fact is that it exists, and, imo, it is more important to work on how we interact with others than to pinpoint an exact cause, ofc, for some people, knowing it's biological rather than choice is important...but I think even...

    Anarcho-capitalists, I'm calling you out....

This would definitely be the main problem I would have with AC. The existence of a state (and here I'm talking about the Australian state) provides commonality against which we can measure our own and others' behaviour. Where would the common standards be in AC? What sort of dangerous situations...

    Non-Maths HSC

To OP: Imo, it not only depends on the workload but also how much you like it. The HSC year is a time when you're going to need to do all you can to stay as motivated as possible. For me, a big part of that was picking subjects I enjoyed. The more you like a subject, the more likely you are to...

    Homosexuality in Australia

This is utterly ridiculous. Christianity is an ideology, just like any belief system.

*Rereads post.* Ah. Yes. You seem to be right. Sorry.

Should individuals/groups have the right to secede from the state?

In principle, yes, to *some* extent, I think individuals/groups should have the right to secede from the state. However, in terms of practicality, I disagree. What if someone decided to do so, committed murder and then claimed to be free of state jurisdiction because of their secession?

Can you be Christian, and support the existance of the state?

In some ways, the function of the State and the Christian Bible are very similar, which others have no doubt pointed out. Whilst the Bible does say 'love thy neighbour' etc, it also says things like: "Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace...

    Homosexuality in Australia

But Channy is still right. Australia is supposed to be a secular nation. There's nothing wrong with people being religious, but I would argue that this should *not* influence legislation. Of course it does influence people's views, but you would think that those such as politicians could look...

Can you be Christian, and support the existance of the state?

Hmm. Well, with regard to the OP, I guess it would depend on how one interprets both Christianity and the function of the State.

Catholic Church and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Hmm. Yes. God forbid the Catholic Church should move with the times in terms of doctrine. It definitely wouldn't want to go down the path of the Uniting Church or the Anglicans. After all, the Dark Ages were SO great... Seriously, no wonder the Catholic Church is rapidly losing numbers in...

Catholic Church and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Imo, Western nations are not doing ENOUGH about the issue...sure, they're doing something, which is a lot better than nothing...but I think they could be doing more. As for condemning Africa, how on Earth would that help? Even if it was their fault (which it's not).

Catholic Church and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

I think *several* parties should take more responsibility for this issue, including the Church, Western nations, the govts of the nations most affected, etc. It would be unfair and unreasonable to put all the blame on a single group, but also irresponsible to ignore their role.

Rudd plans to lower voting age to 16

Exactly. The goal should be to empower and inform as many people as possible (not just 16 year olds) not to just assume they don't care. That sort of thinking is likely to add to people's sense of disempowerment and apathy. When I was 16, apathy about political issues wasn't 'cause I didn't...

Hey...sorry it took so long to get back to you. I did a short story with poems throughout for my MW. It was about an artist with synaesthesia who withdraws from life because she can't change the world, but then regains her perspective with the help of her boyfriend and her artwork.

    Will Rudd surpass Keating?

I agree with S.H.O.D.A.N. here. Also, Rudd didn't get us into debt single-handedly. People seem to be forgetting that we're led by a government, not an individual. And it's not just Australia. It's the whole economic system of the developed world. Also, it's not like Howard was squeaky...
